View Full Version : What do you think of Esperanto language?

As above. Personally, I wish it was a international language (along with English, of course). I'm not fond of the fact that English is considered as an international language, despite the fact, it already belongs to one nation. On top of that, I have enough of the Anglo-American hegemony all over the places.
I wouldn't mind the other artificial languages taking over, as I think Esperanto has some flaws, indeed.
BTW, how does it sound like?

I would love to learn it, sounds beautiful. I might start next year :)

So you can speak this language? Did you learn it by yourself or with a teacher?

For a language that is supposed to represent all the world's major languages, it is way too much like another Romance language. Better to not waste your time and learn Spanish or French (i.e. other Romance languages) instead.

I learned it by myself, through websites like Lernu.net and Duolingo.com, also though a few Esperanto student books.

I actually think the concept of Esperanto is interesting, but ultimately the language will be useless. The chances of it taking off in any large amount is zero, so there's no point in learning it. It's a hobbyist language at best.

The people that speak Esperanto usually seem to be a bit obsessed with "uniting the world." Esperanto is getting a lot of negative points from having mostly the lefties/commies using it but I think it comes from the points that most of people who learn new languages for fun/hobby (as like above mentioned, English is the language of businesses talk all over the world) and so most people who have that kind of time to waste are lefties/commies.

George Soros' dad is a big fan of Esperanto. That should tell you all you need to know.

If the world ended up using Esperanto, 75% of the vocabulary would be in English since so many abstract concepts and objects were invented by English speakers. Languages and words are adopted naturally. Forcing a new language into existence is pointless, in my opinion.

Anyway, it's the language of the UN. Maybe thats why they sound like they are saying one thing whilst doing something completely differentio.
