I am torn between II and III, but maybe III just shades it. I hate the first series.

III and IV are pretty much equally good. Not many laughs for me in the second series, never found the Queen Elizabeth bits funny.

I agree she wasn't that great as a character, but Melchett, Percy and Blackadder himself were fun.

I liked II, III, IV was probably the best but a lot of gallows humour

My favourite episode is probably the dictionary episode from Blackadder III, Ink and Incapability. Also love Captain Cook from Blackadder goes Forth, the painting episode.

I can honestly say, I loved them all but, I'm a sentimental person and the ending to Blackadder Goes Forth, swings it for me. That and the farcical battle plans, the various attempts at feigned madness and the really touching moments, mainly with Hugh Laurie. He was awesome in the last season, imo.

Fuck, English comedy *was* epic, can't believe how far everything has fallen.

Yeah, there seems to be a lot less creativity these days. About the only growth area nowadays is in detective dramas (and even many of them are imported from Scandinavia and France in particular).

My mum's favourite was always II, she can quote those episodes line by line.
For me, it's:
III
IV
II
I

So we can generally agree that the first series was poor then? Good.

Poor compared to the last two, better than any of the rubbish on now.

Even though Blackadder was very irritating and inept in the first series?

Have only watched a compilation or two, so I would say that the best blackbrother is Anthony Joshua.

It has a darker, sometimes even shocking and experimental humour Wich is refreshing, so I liked that first series also.

Well it does discuss death, religion and witchcraft in rather graphic ways, I suppose. xD
