The chad Irish whiskey vs the virgin continental wine. Irish and Scots do whiskey best. I personally can't stand Canadian whiskey (shit taste like charcoal) and American whiskey just doesn't have that great of a flavor profile most of the time.

Wine gives me the dirty feeling angry drunk that people say tequila gives them; just an all around unenjoyable experience to me. I don't even particularly like brandy, same thing; but brandy is essentially just concentrated wine so it makes sense. The chemistry of whiskey is made for British people.

I think that goes for a lot of people due to high sugar content in grapes. It's also important not to buy cheap wine which is a guaranteed hangover. I think wine drink requires a certain finesse compared to other alcohols.

Most likely, it reminds me of hangovers from college. I fear that cheap wines are what shape peoples opinion. People should spurge on a good wine once in a while.

Not in Boston though? :)

They drink a lot of wine here also. It would be much more common to drink wine than whiskey. Climate might have something to do with it. In colder climates whiskey puts a fire in your belly. There are a lot of Italians in Australia as well and they prefer the vino. There are some great Australian wines though and wine is very cheap here. Not so with whiskey which is relatively expensive.

Like you, the people in Boston are true Irish but the coastal living British Isles people in California (including some Irish unfortunately) have sold out to the red wine agenda. In all seriousness, I'm very impressed by certain Australian reds. You actually produce some excellent wine for great prices. Perhaps the best value in all of wine along with maybe Argentina.

I might have to drive down for that. I was gonna say they make legal forms of both Palinka or Tuica (similar Romanian brandy) but the alcohol content is much lower than the "good stuff" right? I mean the range can be like 30%-80% or something crazy like that.

Yes I think the commercial ones are much lower in alcohol content .

I personally hate grape alcohol.
In my opinion, grape alcohol has a non-R1a (and especially non-N1c:)) nature. That is why our family, even being a native of Crimea and southern Russia, never liked wine (and cognac to some extent) because of a severe hangover and headache in the morning.
Now my father and I believe that from spirits it is best to drink vodka (a pure product, minimal side effects, compatible with almost any food) and whiskey (made from grains, a weak hangover, there is no vanilla smell like in cognac). Any fruit distillate is poorly tolerated by me. Of the light drinks, beer or cider is best for me.

Wine or Whisky?

Wine.(In that sense I have tastes considered feminine, I prefer a rosé and white wines over red wines, with exceptions)

Wine or beer?

Beer. But more than for the flavor itself, because it has less alcohol.

I rarely drink alcohol.(but I have drunk a lot in other times)

Red wine hangovers are some of the worst there can be, that´s true.

But my worst experience with alcohol was undoubtedly because of the whiskey, a bad quality whisky, but whisky.

Telling that the hangover produced by the wine is due to the grape sugar is something absurd, because the sugar present in grapes are fructose and glucose, that during the distillation become alcohol (ethanol) and CO2.

The tiny amount of non-fermentable sugars, basically pentoses, that could remain in some wines is around 1g/litre.

I don't know too much about whiskey or beer making to draw any conclusions about what is better or worse in that regard.

I think there are so many different wines with so many variations that I find it curious that there are people who have not found a wine that they like.

Maybe is something cultural, or simply that I do not know about the world of whiskey either, but I have the impression that whiskey is more homogeneous in terms of flavors and variations.

Sorry for the long post and unnecessary disgression about the topic.:picard1:

I just don't get the point of wine, it's just bitter and not "fruity" at all even the ones who say they really are. I guess it's a matter of getting used to it, like beer
Also, I've never drinked whisky on its own, always mixed with coke :rotfl
But basically, when it comes to alcohol I mostly prefer distilled rather than brewed

I don't agree. Wine tastes fruity. Red wine usually tastes like berries and whites like citrus, rarely apples etc. It depends of type and production process.

Wine, ideally red. The milder, less heavy flavours of white wine don't appeal to me. Else, beer while grilling outside.
I don't drink liquors, spirits, distillates or any alcohol over approx 30%, the alcohol overpowers the actual taste and makes the entire experience moot; I've tasted plenty of rum, whiskey, and spirits people claimed were delicious, but to me they all taste predominantly like their alcohol content and nothing else. I don't care about getting drunk.
