The city of Marstal on Ærø island, was a small town based on fishing in the 16th century but developed in the 18th century into an important maritme city. A cosy town with narrow streets.

Denmark is a nice country, its landscapes are typical of the North European Plain and can be compared to those of England, the Netherlands and Northern Germany but the architecture is very distinctive.
I do like some of their buildings to be honest, they're very refreshing (for want of better words) from the architectural styles of England.

Tuan, I went to Lindholm Hoje two years ago on my first trip to Aalborg, it's a truly spiritual place. Although I was in Aalborg last weekend for three days it was all about friends and football:)

Is the Branch the point where the two seas meet? You can effectively have a foot in both seas.

The two photos above represent the old streets of Denmark. I've seen them both in Arhus and Aalborg but more famously in Ribe which is one of Denmark's oldest towns and picture postcard material. I have always loved hollyhocks....the most cheerful of summer flowers.

Copenhagen Central Station is the main railway station in Copenhagen, Denmark and the largest railway station in Denmark, although Nørreport Station has a larger passenger throughput if urban S-train and Metro services are included. It is situated between the districts of Indre By and Vesterbro with entrances from Bernstorffsgade (at Tivoli Gardens), Banegårdspladsen, Reventlowsgade and access to platforms from Tietgensgade.

Copenhagen Central Station is the hub of the DSB railway network serving Denmark and international destinations. It offers InterCity and Express trains services across Denmark, as well as services to several international destinations, regular and frequent regional train services to and from Zealand and southern Sweden (also referred to as Øresund trains). The station also services the Copenhagen S-train network, but the S-train system in Copenhagen doesn't use any kind of hub at all. It is an urban transit which differs from most Metro systems mainly by being a type of railway. At the station are two platforms with four tracks that are used by the S-trains only. All other trains usually use the other four platforms and eight tracks.

It's amazing how much the Danish dunes and beaches remind me of the Netherlands. The landscape is exactly the same.

Didn't you say you liked brick buildings? Here's Esbjerg, quaint looking but easily one of the brickiest towns I recall from Jylland, always liked this town. :)

Say, I know those towers, that's Ribe. That town's a beauty. I bet there's less than 10,000 living in that town, which is probably why she's kept her charm, thankfully. One of the biggest trade hubs in Scandinavia in heathen days, safe to say, it was one of the first places to get a makeover. That domkirke is quite the sight.

Trump Expressed An Interest In Buying Greenland

Did Trump become president just to land the world's biggest real estate deal?

Maybe instead of a library (he was never much of a reader), President Trump is hoping to build a presidential memorial golf course instead. Whatever the reason, WSJ reports that President Trump has expressed interest in buying the island of Greenland, and has discussed the prospect with several senior officials in his administration.

Of course, Greenland's name is famously a misnomer: the frigid island is situated between the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, and is covered in snow during most of the year. In other words, not exactly the ideal location for a memorial golf course.

But Greenland is a self-ruling part of the Kingdom of Denmark with a population of about 56,000. Incidentally, President Trump is scheduled to make his first visit to Denmark early next month, and, although the visit is unrelated, the people of Greenland have been joking that Trump is coming to see about buying their island.

As it turns out, it wasn't a joke. At a dinner with associates last spring, two WSJ sources said Trump recounted that someone had told him at a roundtable that Denmark was having financial trouble over its assistance to Greenland, and suggested that he should consider buying the island

“What do you guys think about that?” Trump asked the room, the person said. “Do you think it would work?”

The person described the question less as a serious inquiry and more as a joke meant to indicate “I’m so powerful I could buy a country,” the WSJ goes on to note - even though the same WSJ reports that Trump's purchasing intention was serious enough to merit top page one placement - noting that since Trump hadn’t floated the idea at a campaign rally yet, he probably isn’t seriously considering it. The person believed the president was interested in the idea because of the island’s natural resources and because it would give him a legacy akin to former President Dwight Eisenhower ’s admission of Alaska into the U.S. as a state.

To be sure, there would be certain advantages to owning Greenland, the two main ones being military and scientific. A decades-old defense treaty between Denmark and the US gives the military virtually unlimited rights. America has used those rights to build its northernmost base, Thule Air Base, located 750 miles north of the Arctic Circle. The base includes a radar station that is part of an ICBM early warning system. The base is also used by the US Air Force Space Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

There is also - not surprisingly - a race for supremacy with China over the island's future. So far, Washington has prevented Beijing from financing three airports on Greenland that would give it a toehold on the strategically important island - which is also the world's largest by square mileage - something the US military refuses to risk. And though it has vast natural resources across its 811,000 square miles, Greenland relies on $591 million of subsidies from Denmark annually, which makes up about 60% of its annual budget.

To be fair to Trump, US interest in owning Greenland dates back more than a century. After WWII, Harry Truman offered Denmark $100 million for the island which, though it's technically part of North America, is culturally European. The Kingdom refused. The State Department also explored buying Greenland and Iceland in 1867, but nothing came of it.

It would be a funny coincidence if, after making his name as a developer on Manhattan, perhaps the world's most famous island, Trump cemented his legacy as a president by buying Greenland, the world's biggest island.

Or perhaps Trump only became president to land the world's biggest real estate deal?

The Trundholm sun chariot, is a Nordic Bronze Age artifact discovered in Denmark. It is a representation of the sun chariot, a bronze statue of a horse and a large bronze disk, which are placed on a device with spoked wheels. The disks were then decorated with punches and gravers with zones of motifs of concentric circles, with bands of zig-zag decoration between borders. The gold side has an extra outer zone which may represent rays, and also a zone with concentric circles linked by looping bands that "instead of flowing in one direction, progress like the steps of the dance, twice forward and once back". The main features of the horse are also highly decorated. The two sides of the disk have been interpreted as an indication of a belief that the sun is drawn across the heavens from East to West during the day, presenting its bright side to the Earth and returns from West to East during the night, when the dark side is being presented to the Earth. A continuation around a globe would have the same result. It is thought that the chariot was pulled around during religious rituals to demonstrate the motion of the sun in the heavens. The synodic cycle is the time that elapses between two successive conjunctions of an object in the sky, such as a specific star, with the sun. It is the time that elapses before the object will reappear at the same point in the sky when observed from the Earth, so it is the apparent orbital period observed from Earth. He asserts his belief that this demonstrates that the disk was designed by a person with some measure of astronomic knowledge and that the sculpture may have functioned as a calendar.

Copenhagen Central Station is the main railway station in Copenhagen, Denmark and the largest railway station in Denmark, although Nørreport Station has a larger passenger throughput if urban S-train and Metro services are included. It is situated between the districts of Indre By and Vesterbro with entrances from Bernstorffsgade (at Tivoli Gardens), Banegårdspladsen, Reventlowsgade and access to platforms from Tietgensgade. Copenhagen Central Station is the hub of the DSB railway network serving Denmark and international destinations. It offers InterCity and Express trains services across Denmark, as well as services to several international destinations, regular and frequent regional train services to and from Zealand and southern Sweden (also referred to as Øresund trains). The station also services the Copenhagen S-train network, but the S-train system in Copenhagen doesn't use any kind of hub at all. It is an urban transit which differs from most Metro systems mainly by being a type of railway. At the station are two platforms with four tracks that are used by the S-trains only. All other trains usually use the other four platforms and eight tracks.

Welcome to another trip report! On August 20, I flew Air Greenland from Copenhagen, Denmark to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland in Business Class. This was one of the coolest flights I've ever taken because I love flying to Arctic places. Air Greenland (previously known as Greenlandair) is the flag carrier and only airline based in Greenland. They operate a fleet of 32 aircraft and are owned by the Greenlandic Government. Besides running scheduled services and government-contracted flights to most villages in the country, they also support remote research stations and provide charter services for tourists and Greenland's energy and mineral-resource industries along with medivac operations during emergencies. They technically have seven subsidiaries: the airline, hotels, tour operators, a travel agency specialized in Greenlandic tourism, and the Arctic Umiaq Line, an unprofitable but government-subsidized ferry service that I am interested in doing a video on in the near future. Filmed on Wednesday, August 21, 2019. Nuuk, Greenland's capital, is a small city on the country's southwest coast. Its large fjord system is known for waterfalls, humpback whales and icebergs. The waterfront is dotted with brightly colored houses against the backdrop of Sermitsiaq mountain. The major cities closest to Nuuk are Iqaluit and St. John's in Canada and Reykjavík in Iceland. Nuuk contains almost a third of Greenland's population and its tallest building. Nuuk is also the seat of government for the Sermersooq municipality. In January 2019, it had a population of 17,984. MS Crown Seaways is a cruiseferry operated by DFDS Seaways on a route connecting Copenhagen, Denmark to Oslo, Norway. The ship was built in 1994 by Brodosplit in Split, Croatia. She was originally ordered by Euroway and was to be called Frans Kockum but never sailed under that name. The ship was also temporarily renamed Thomas Mann during construction. Crown Seaways has three sister ships: Amorella and Gabriella in the Viking Line fleet and Isabelle in the Tallink fleet.

The Port of Copenhagen (Danish: Københavns Havn) is the largest Danish seaport and one of the largest ports in the Baltic Sea basin. It extends from Svanemølle Beach in the north to Hvidovre in the south. Along with Malmö harbour, Copenhagen Port is operated by Copenhagen Malmö Port and By & Havn. The port is divided into several different areas, many of which are individual harbors: There has been rapid development along the seafront; large parts of the inner harbor been recently transformed into residential and commercial areas. Nyhavn ( New Harbour) is a 17th-century waterfront, canal and entertainment district in Copenhagen, Denmark. Stretching from Kongens Nytorv to the harbour front just south of the Royal Playhouse, it is lined by brightly coloured 17th and early 18th century townhouses and bars, cafes and restaurants. The canal harbours many historical wooden ships. As ocean-going ships grew larger, Nyhavn was taken over by internal Danish small vessel freight traffic. After World War II land transport took over this role and small vessel traffic disappeared from the Port of Copenhagen, leaving Nyhavn largely deserted of ships. In the mid-1960s, the Nyhavn Society was founded with the aim of revitalising the area. In 1977, Nyhavn was inaugurated as a veteran ship and museum harbour by Copenhagen’s Lord Mayor Egon Weidekamp. In 1980 Nyhavn quay was pedestrianised; it had been used as a parking area in the previous years which had coincided with a dwindling of harbour activities. Since then it has become a popular spot for tourists and locals alike, serving the function of a square according to architects Jan Gehl and Lars Gemzøe. The northern side of Nyhavn is lined by brightly coloured townhouses built with wood, bricks, and plaster. The oldest house, at No. 9, dates from 1681. Between 1845 and 1864, Hans Christian Andersen lived at No. 67, where a memorial plaque now stands. From 1871-1875 Andersen lived at Nyhavn 18, which currently houses an Andersen-themed souvenir shop. The southern side of Nyhavn has lavish mansions lining the canal, including Charlottenborg Palace at the corner of Kongens Nytorv.

Strøget is a pedestrian, car free shopping area in Copenhagen, Denmark. This popular tourist attraction in the centre of town is one of the longest pedestrian shopping streets in Europe at 1.1 km. Located at the centre of the old city of Copenhagen, it has long been one of the most high-profile streets in the city. The pedestrianisation of Strøget in 1962 marked the beginning a major change in the approach of Copenhagen to urban life; following the success of the initiative the city moved to place a much greater emphasis on pedestrian and bicycle access to the city at the expense of cars. Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup (Danish: Københavns Lufthavn, Kastrup) is the main international airport serving Copenhagen, Denmark, the entire Zealand, the Øresund Region, and a large part of southern Sweden. Gesta Hammaburgensis ecclesiae pontificum (Medieval Latin for "Deeds of the Bishops of Hamburg") is a historical treatise written between 1073 and 1076 by Adam of Bremen, 11th Century German writer. It is a history of the see of Hamburg and of Christian missions in northern Europe from the late eighth to the late eleventh century and is the primary source of our knowledge of the history, geography, and ethnography of the Scandinavian and Baltic regions and their peoples before the thirteenth century. Arriving in Bremen in 1066 and soon falling under the tutelage of Archbishop Adalbert, who figures prominently in the narrative, Adam recorded the centuries-long campaign by his church to convert Slavic and Scandinavian peoples.

His History vividly reflects the firsthand accounts he received from travelers, traders, and missionaries on the peripheries of medieval Europe. As the bishops had jurisdiction over the missions to Scandinavia, it also gives a report of the Norse paganism of the period. The existence of the work was forgotten in the later medieval period, until it was re-discovered in the late 16th century in the library of Sorø Abbey, Denmark. How do we actually know about history? Voices of the Past is a channel dedicated to recreating the original accounts from the people who lived through events, or who lived far closer to them than we do today. We do this word for word, with an accompanying soundtrack of rousing music and images.

Awesome vintage F-104G Starfighter 8mm cine film recordings from everyday life in Royal Danish Air Force Fighter Squadron 726 in the summer of 1969 at the Aalborg Airbase. The film has belonged to Mogens Viggo Hansen, pilot name MOV, and was filmed by colleagues from the squadron, including MOV himself. The motion picture is 100% original from 1969 which is seen in the original painting of the aircraft. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the filming, the film has been cleaned, digitalized, stabilized and colour graded to an impressive quality and with very spectacular earth and air recordings for Starfighter enthusiasts. MOV speaked the movie in mid-00's with loan of music from his favourite movie Battle of Britain. The authentic General Electric J79 engine sound has been borrowed from 2016-2018 recordings of the CF-104D 637 Starfighter, which Norwegian enthusiasts have managed to get on its wings after 33 years. Our father and grandfather, MOV, unfortunately past away in 2011, but we the descendants could not resist the temptation to expand the knowledge of this little pearl of a jetfighter movie from the late 60s.

We went to Skagen in Denmark to celebrate anniversary and birthday. Tram, ferry and train took us to Skagen and we arrived around one. We stayed at Foldens Hotel & Café and spent most of Monday afternoon enjoying the sun, did some shopping and had a few beers. We ended with an anniversary dinner at Skagens Fiskerestaurant. After breakfast Tuesday morning we went for a walk to Grenen – The northern tip of Denmark. Coming back to Skagen a refreshing beer at Skagens Fiskerestaurant tasted good. Later we had birthday dinner at Ristorante Firenze. After breakfast Wednesday it was train back to Frederikshavn to catch the ferry to Gothenburg.

The Faroes took on global giant Google to protect their language and identity and have also created the world's fastest mobile broadband (a reserved issue in Scotland). The key factor in these success stories has been the Faroes Parliament: without doubt, the world's most powerful devolved parliament. This wee nation relies heavily on fish which represents around 95% of exports but life in the Faroes is changing. A new generation, enthused by a proximity to political power, are shaping these traditionally conservative islands into progressive society that more and more want to live in. The Faroes is also finding itself at the centre of things as the Arctic presents new opportunities. The Faroese community connects in all kinds of ways - through tunnels that join the separate islands, by air to the rest of the world with its own national airline and is reconnecting with nature to create world-class food. North Sealand, (Danish: Nordsjælland) refers to the northern part of the Danish island of Zealand which is not clearly defined but generally covers the area north of Copenhagen. The Danish tourist authorities have recently introduced the term Danish Riviera to cover the area in view of its increasing importance for tourism. Copenhagen just keeps finding fun ways to make it easier to bike - and more convienent. I was able to take a nice tour with Mikael Collville-Andersen and see some new innovations that have happened since I was in Copenhagen 4 years ago. First off, if you've seen my Streetfilm from the Velo City Conference 2010 (yes, feel free to watch again here) the busiest bicycle street in the world has changed! Now the Knippelsbro Bridge boasts 40,700 riders per day! And speaking of bridges, Copenhagen is building SIX new bike/ped only bridges to help its citizens get around easier. Last month another cool bridge debuted - the Cykelslangen "Cycle Snake" or "The Snake". You'll see lots of footage as we travelled back and forth over it. It is truly a work of beauty and the riding is incredibly smooth. Even going uphill seems pretty easy! You'll see lots of other things that will make you happy (or angry your city isn't doing it!) Including waste baskets angled for cyclists, LED lights that indicate whether riders have to speed up to catch the green wave, and a cool treatment for cobblestone streets that helps make biking easier.

Glostrup Kommune is a suburban municipality (Danish kommune) and town in Region Hovedstaden on the island of Zealand (Sjælland) approx. 10 km west of Copenhagen in eastern Denmark. European route E47 is a road (part of the United Nations international E-road network) connecting Lübeck in Germany to Helsingborg in Sweden via the Danish capital, Copenhagen. It is also known as the Vogelfluglinie and the Sydmotorvej. The road is of motorway standard all the way except for 28 km (17 mi) in Germany and 6 km (4 miles) of city roads in Helsingør; there are also two ferry connections. A fixed link between Germany and Denmark was planned to have been completed by the year 2020, now delayed to 2028. First off, if you've seen my Streetfilm from the Velo City Conference 2010 (yes, feel free to watch again here) the busiest bicycle street in the world has changed! Now the Knippelsbro Bridge boasts 40,700 riders per day! And speaking of bridges, Copenhagen is building SIX new bike/ped only bridges to help its citizens get around easier. Last month another cool bridge debuted - the Cykelslangen "Cycle Snake" or "The Snake". You'll see lots of footage as we travelled back and forth over it. It is truly a work of beauty and the riding is incredibly smooth. Even going uphill seems pretty easy! You'll see lots of other things that will make you happy (or angry your city isn't doing it!) Including waste baskets angled for cyclists, LED lights that indicate whether riders have to speed up to catch the green wave, and a cool treatment for cobblestone streets that helps make biking easier.

Denmark is building an $8.2 billion tunnel across the Baltic Sea to Germany. The Fehmarnbelt is a thin, shallow Baltic sea channel separating Scandinavia and mainland Europe. Here Arnaq tells the Myth of Kaasassuk. It is a Greenlandic myth passed down from her ancestors, and she tells it in its' original language; Kalaalisut. Kaassassuk is the story of an orphan who was mistreated by his community. An elder man told the kid to call for a great spirit. The spirit granted the young boy great powers. He used his newfound power to take revenge, but learned to be at peace when he was finally bested in battle. Most beautiful Iceland Amager Strandpark Beach Copenhagen.
The beach is a two-kilometre-long artificial island forming a lagoon, with pools on one side and a sandy beach on the other. The area is a popular place for both sunbathing and relaxation, as well as for sports activities for all. in this video I started walking from Øresund metro station (Øresundsvej) and i walked to Naturcenter and then all the way to The Kastrup Sea Baths and back to Amager Strand Metro Station then after small metro trip to Nørreport Station, then I took S-tog train.

Today we are walking at Møns klint (The cliffs of Møn) the 09th of May 2020. The tour starts at 13pm.
Møns Klint is a 6 km stretch of chalk cliffs along the eastern coast of the Danish island of Møn in the Baltic Sea. On this walk we gonna se Some of the cliffs that fall a sheer 120 m to the sea below. The highest cliff is Dronningestolen, which is 128 m above sea level. The area around Møns Klint consists of woodlands, pastures, ponds and steep hills, including Aborrebjerg which, with a height of 143 m, is one of the highest points in Denmark. The cliffs and adjacent park are now protected as a nature reserve. Møns Klint receives around 250,000 visitors a year. There are clearly marked paths for walkers, riders and cyclists.

Today we will be riding the Metro in Copenhagen, Denmark. We will ride the M3 Line, which is called the City Circle Line (Cityringen), because the route goes in a circle, around the city centre. We will also be riding the M2 Line, which is the Line that goes to Copenhagen airport. This Line also has an open scenery, while the M3 Line basically only runs in the tunnel.

Aarhus Ø is the newly built area in Aarhus City, located in the harbor area near the city center. This area has a unique modern architecture, a maritime vibe and some Watersport activities.

This new part of town is well under way and is now a modern and charming mosaic separated by canals. From the downtown cafés there are only a few minutes’ walk to the south facing ledges in front of the educational campus, Navitas, where you can dip your toes in the cool seawater.

The weather was very nice this day of 26 °C. We will end our tour in the city center. Sit back, relax and enjoy watching this beautiful Danish city.
