Hello, is there any way of telling (through calculators) if I have recent Baltic ancestry (Lithuanian, Latvian or Estonian)? I'm not talking ancient Baltic admix in Polish people, but recent (last 100 years) since I have strong reason to believe one of my grandparents was a russified Lithuanian. Thank you.

I checked your coordinates long time ago and noticed that your main ancestry is Lithuanian-like. Do you have Baltic relatives or maybe Polish relatives living near Baltic countries on 23andme or other commercial tests? This is the best way to tell

Before the update, my strongest regions on 23andme were Poland (naturally) and Lithuania. I have a few Lithuanian relatives on 23andme and myheritage, most of my relatives are Americans or Germans. Myheritage also gives me 10% Baltic but that's not really trust worthy since they also give me 7% Finnish and I have no Finnish ancestry. My grandfather was born in Lithuania (current Lithuanian-Belarusian border) but he considered himself a Lithuanian and a Ruthenian, not a Pole. So I'm wondering if it's actually true that he was ethnically Baltic.

One thing you could do is pick a calc (I like K15, K13, G25), use Vahaduo and just select the sources that match your known ancestry and then add a Baltic population. See if the calc models you with some of the Baltic pop.

With G25 if I have Polish, Czech, German, Ukrainian and Ashkenazi (which is my known ancestry) I only get Polish. As soon as I add Lithuanian references I get:

Target: Polak_scaled
Distance: 3.0977% / 0.03097744
48.1 Polish
27.5 Lithuanian_VZ
21.5 Lithuanian_PZ
2.9 Ashkenazi_Ukraine

I think one the Lithuanian references is atleast partially Slavic rather than Baltic.

If I add a Latvian one instead I get:

Target: Polak_scaled
Distance: 3.1994% / 0.03199418
70.1 Polish
29.9 Latvian

Which is still not amazing but within margin of error 5%+/- and given my other ancestry. I think the Latvian sample is ethnically around 80% Baltic.

What do you think? Thanks

I'm no geneticist but based on this I think your theory about your grandpa's ethnic origins certainly holds some weight.
