Eastern Euro phenotypes.

Would you say there is a big North/south divide in Romania? many Romanians in London i have known have often looked quite Spanish/Turkish or in other words quite Med generally.

I say, yes!

The Romanians, which you know are possibly from South.

The South Romanians look more darker and Balkan than Northern Romanians. The latter people are lighter and look more East Euro.

The people in these pitcures, are typically Northern Romanians.

Ha maybe though i have met a fair share of lighter Romanians as well though they are generally a varied bunch and these in those photos above have a few Med looking individuals but not as much as what is normally associated with Romanians.

There is a North/South divide in Romania, but most Romanians are Southerners. Only about 20% of the population looks like this. Population in large cities in Northern Romania still looks Southern.

More Northern phenotypes are found along the border with Ukraine and along the Carpathian arc (between Moldova and Transylvania), usually in villages and small towns.

Thanks for explaining, i suppose the Romanian population is more or less like that of the Croats, a much stronger Med/dinarid component in the bulk of the country and much more lighter in parts of the north.

A good amount of these faces you can see in Romanian Banat as well, but just as many are quite different and more mainstream Eastern European. They also appear to have lighter hair than the vast majority of Balkanites.

They are from here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Targu+Neamt,+Romania/@47.2091003,26.3534544,4052m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x4735473db2ee6ba5:0xb ae59b8655847551!8m2!3d47.2097877!4d26.3757306

About hair color and their pigmentation, first they are from Neamț county not so far from Suceava county (Bukovina), second they are from a little town on Carpathian foothills, so not very representative. Another thing, I don't see Gypsies between them, which is pretty hard sometimes to find such big group of people in Romania without them, including Moldova region, considering how many of them live here.

Wrong. Northern/Panonnian Croats are majority in Croatia.

Of course, just like nowhere in Romania is as dark as Bulgaria and pretty much the whole country is lighter on average than Spain Croatia also has central Euro influence across the whole country but i would imagine it is greater in the north.

You just cannot compare Croats to Romanians on this regard: former are MUCH lighter haired and lighter eyed (by a factor of two at least). Also they don't look alike: SW Slavs are almost as distinct from Romanians as Ukrainians

Croats are much lighter than Romanians on average, but pretty similar to Moldavians. South Romanians are still much darker than Dalmatians.

SW Slavs are genetically closer to us than Ukrainians but lookswise Romanians resemble the East Slavic "potato face" more, so that's why to the untrained eye we seem more east slavic.

I think these Moldavians from Tārgu Neamț can be modelled as half S. Romanian half Polish/Ukrainian. Pigmentation wise they are similar to Hungarians or Croats but they lack the Germanic types of Hungarians, and instead have East Slavic Baltid types.

If you ever went there I would say it's a tie:
- Dalmatians (regardless of religion) include full blown Med and Dinaric individuals that would be taken as Greeks here in Romania.
- Dalmatians have more blondes/blue eyed individuals. This is beyond dispute

I would say that Romanians, on average, have less contrasting features
