I’m talking about the invaders of India. Who do you think was worst? The British or the Greeks? I think the Greeks were probably worst because Alexander the Great forced people to bow down to him and accept him as their god. If they refused, they were killed.

The brits were somewhat better because they helped with women’s rights such as ending Sati (a Hindu custom where a widow was expected to jump into fire). Also assisted with modernization such as built trains and more universities.

Neither.

Most of Alexander's empire came from Persian satrapies surrendering to Alexander because they didn't like being under the rule of Persia and saw him as a liberator. He got only as far as Northern Afghanistan and Pakistan, and people there were originally deportees and exiles of the Persian empire that lived in ethnic ghetto type environments getting subsumed by the surrounding Asiatic population and were nobodies with zero power and influence.

Only part of his territory actually came from fighting battles, so he is overrated in a sense, but still no doubt a tactical genius.

A successor kingdom of Alexander the Great, Bactria, located in India, traded some of their famed horses (probably Thessalian horses) with some traders who took them to China. The Chinese Emperor was so damn impressed, he sent diplomats back to the Greeks. The Greeks, enjoyed this small contact, till the diplomats asked to buy more horses, like 3000 (if not more) of these horses. This was far, far more than the Greeks were willing to part with.

So the Emperor sent an expedition force to try again. And the Greeks freaked the fuck out and killed them lel. Problem is, they were Chinese, so what they thought was the army, was only a portion of the expedition force. After being besieged for a few days, the Greeks relented, and opened the gates.

The Chinese acted like nothing was wrong, gave the Greeks gifts, then asked again to buy the horses, even offered more money than before. The Emperor got his horses, the Greeks got to keep their kingdom in India, if depleted of some of their fine war horses.

The Greeks invented Democracy then forget how to use it. The Indians did not pick up Democracy from the Greeks. The Indians now practice Democracy , at least ostensibly, thanks to the British and without that India would be doing for worse than it is also the modernization like you said.

Final verdict : Indians were better off with the British invaders then with the Greeks it seems to me.

If that's what's practiced in Britain or the US "democracy", then I'm Prince of Wales.
