Mostly mestizos and castizos, several triracials, fewer whites, and one black.

Lozano, are blacks from Colombia also boring and irritating as are those from Brazil? they say things like "you enslaved me" "You have a historical debt with my people" and all that history style black lives matter.

Triracials

Well Medellin has seen a lot of internal migration from the Pacific coast in recent years.

I guess anyone who is majority Black or Amerindian would be a minority in most of Colombia.

They look like Spanish people who are mixed with Native (for the most part). Thanks for this post Tooting Carmen. Interesting to see different Columbian types.

Amerindians yes. Blacks make up a very significant percentage of the population along the Pacific and to a lesser extent Caribbean Coasts.

Racial discussion aside. Medellin's current major is a leftist and he's keen on destroying the city whichever way he can.

A low blow for Paisas who are known for being fiercely conservative but they messed up when they voted for this guy.

By the way, these people were chosen by him.

Not a very significant percentage anywhere on the Caribbean Coast. So yes, majority black people would be a minority in most of Colombia except for the Pacific Coast. I know for sure majority black people are a minority in my Caribbean city. A very rare sight.

Yes, except for the Pacific Coast and the deep Amazon rainforest. Which accounts for very little of the country's total population. Most Colombians live up in the highlands (70% of the population) or in the Caribbean (about 25% of the country's population).

Granted, people who are Black in the Afram or Jamaican sense are a minority in the Colombian Caribbean, but they aren't that rare either, and when you include people with significant Black admixture (even if well below 50%) then it is a lot of people indeed.

Yes, black people in the Jamaican sense are extremely rare in my city. Even people with more than 25% SSA admixture are deemed rare. People in the 15-25% range are a a lot common and then again, there are many people who are below that range (e.g. me).

Aren't Blacks (or more accurately, Mulattoes and Pardos) rather more common in Cartagena than in Santa Marta though?

Heavily black-admixed people and tri-racials with a big SSA component are more common in Cartagena than either Barranquilla (especially the neighbourhoods to the north of the city) or Santa Marta, yes.

Cartagena is definitely the blackest city on the Caribbean Coast, but nothing like Jamaica. lol There are also whites and mestizos.

Palenqueras from Cartagena.

By the way, mulattoes are a rare occurrence in Colombia I'd say. People with heavy black ancestry are usually tri-racials or just pred. black.

I never implied that Cartagena was like Jamaica - just said it has more Blacks and heavily Black-admixed people than Santa Marta does. All the same, the Colombian Census itself says that in the country as a whole although Blacks are only 4%, Mulattoes/Pardos are around 14%.

You are correct, Cartagena is blacker.

As for ethnicity figures. 6.76% of people self-reported having black ancestry (that includes mulattoes, palenqueros and raizales) in the last census (2018).

Towns with the most people who declared having black ancestry were, in order: Santander de Quilichao (Cauca), María La Baja (Bolívar), La Tola (Nariño), Villa Rica (Cauca), Luruaco (Atlántico).

Nowhere in Choco then?

Blackest towns/cities in Chocó are Quibdó and Atrato. In both cities blacks account for more than 90% of the population. The other way around, only 3% of people declared having black ancestry in El Carmen de Atrato, Chocó.

It's a Paisa town lost in the middle of Chocó. Sort of random.
