Sounds familiar....my ex girlfriend and her family were from Bretanha on São Miguel. I don't really speak Portuguese but the islander dialects are really hard for me to understand, like the dialect of Madeira is almost incomprehensible xD. Hmm, with the Azoreans that I have known and including this one, there are a lot of vowel reductions, the speech is fast, and they pronounce the "u" kinda like the French do.

Yes, it is a hard question for a foreigner, but for Latin language people is easier, IMO.

I think Spanish is much more understandable than that accent to me. It's more dificult to understand than was Italian to me when I started to learn it. Interesting, really sounds like French. Do Portuguese clearly comprehend it?
