They're from Staffordshire in the West Midlands of England. Where do they pass best elsewhere?

They seem quite northern shifted as a group, away from Britain and Ireland they would pass best in the Netherlands and in Flanders i imagine, seem to be quite a lot of Keltic types, a noticeable lack of Alpines, i get the impression that they are more common nearer to London and the south coast.

Would you say that within England, they are more firmly Northern English looking?

Yeah, Staffordshire is just a bit more northern than southern, they look similar to my set from W Yorkshire which aint surprising as it is only 70 miles north.

Yeah, I've always felt that way. It's also genetically clusters with the Northwest more than with the rest of Midlands.

Well, kind of. More Welsh-like influence in South Staffordshire, joining onto Birmingham/West Midlands.

Yes Staffordshire is uber west midlands, so you get a central Eng midlands type mixed with Welsh borders, Shropshire more so but hardly anyone lives there

These people look extremely familiar to me but with stronger North sea influence than you get in Gloucestershire/Somerset

Love Staffordshire; a really beautiful county actually; it is where my paternal line originates.
Concerning my paternal grandfather, who was from the Medway area of Kent, of his own grandparents, three were from the Midlands; his own mother coming from Coventry (with her documented ancestry entirely contained to Warwickshire).

His paternal grandmother was the only one who was a 'Kentish' native. His paternal grandfather was from Newcastle-Under-Lyme (the entirety of his documented ancestry back to the 1800s coming from North Staffs.).

Its western position in England, probs explains my pre-Saxon Y-DNA. It is amazing how the Nottinghamshire samples do look quite Germanic in comparison. Though, whenever I have been up to North Staffs (relatives), I have noticed a decent amount of pseudo-Saxonish types. It's not just Keltic Nordids, Kelto-Brunns or Atlanto Meds up there!

These people look very British, while the Nottinghamshire samples look a bit different they still look like they belong to the same family. What sets these apart from Europeans is the low cephalic index, long heads with fair complexion are characteristic of all British groups especially the English and Scots.

Fairly generic British Isles faces.

You have absolutely nil disagreements from me there. They mostly all look super Englishy; hardly a surprise to anyone. It's just the strikingly light blonde hair on a decent amount of the Nottinghamshire samples catches you off guard a bit, but any other differences are minimal AF.
I must admit the so-called prevalence of brachy types amongst Scots, in comparison to their southern neighbours, is definitely overstated.

Scotland does have more Scando influence i think, the characteristic small eyes of many Scots may be a result of brachycepalisation but that is certainly not an indication of Alpine levels of brachycephaly. I think eye size is actually quite a good measure of the cepalhic index, it could be why larger eyed groups generally have longer heads though it is not absolute, many dinarics have short heads and large eyes.

Cool stuff. My own maternal side is almost entirely from (North) Staffordshire, so it's of interest to me. One of the ancestors you posted from the region looked quite familiar. Regarding Nottinghamshire and the genetics, North Staffordshire is kind of a transition zone, and seems to cluster more with NW England, so not all that West Midlands/Midlands genetically. And Nottinghamshire is not all that similar to most of the Midlands either, it clusters more with Yorkshire.

Some genetic stuff that may or may not be of interest
