Lol! My pigmentation goes through the same 3 stages.

Even when you’re not tan your undertones are still warm/golden so you don’t look pale per say. So I’d say you’re a good fit for type 3

I wanted to bump this thread because I find the Fitzpatrick Scale to be a useful enough scale for measuring pigmentation.

Here you have six different males at the same event (under the exact same lighting) to get a determination of your skin tone...
Type I:

The description is a bit confusing: "Type I skin is very fair and almost translucent, with few or no melanin pigments. Type II skin is light to medium brown and has some freckling. Type III skin is dark brown to black and has a high degree of melanin pigmentation. Type IV skin is very dark brown or black and has a high degree of melanin pigmentation. Type V skin is almost black and has a very high degree of melanin pigmentation. Type VI skin is considered to be "black" or "dark brown" and has the highest degree of melanin pigmentation of any Fitzpatrick skin type."

Fitzpatrick skin type is explicitly about sun sensitivity that is why they are called phototypes. There is actually some controversy regarding the value self-rating Fitzpatrick scale without a dermatologist. Laymen may have issue accurately gauging their sun sensitivity. Furthermore the scales are centered around populations of European-descent and misrepresent the diversity of sun sensitivity among non-Europeans (types V & VI were not even included in the original 1975 scale). That is why separate phototype scales have been created for other racial groups like the Kawada types for Japanese or the Willis and Earles scale for Blacks. The major contrast is between melanocompromised types I & II which have a uniform burning response and melanocompetent types III & IV which have a uniform tanning response.

Reported Fitzpatrick data clearly distinguishes the British Isles where melanocompromised types represent the majority from the rest of Europe. That is represented in this infographic:

https://i.ibb.co/JCGWqq9/f5d211f4366b715fee396dbfbb78e30d.png (https://ibb.co/b7CjFFk)

One discrepancy is that both both Scandinavians and Central Europeans have type III melanocompetent skin on average yet anthropologists found that the former tend to have more consistently fair unexposed skin on the Luschan scale. That is an example of how the Fitzpatrick types might not fully account for skin pigmentation diversity in Europe. Reflectance spectrophotometry on the other hand is a continuous and objective measure.

Honestly you pass as Afghan very well. Within normal pigmentation (not too light, not too dark)...
