View Full Version : Do accents shape the sound of our voice, or the other way 'round?

It's hard to make the question into full sense, but does the way we speak affect the actual "sound" of our voices? Some will say "you sound just like people from here". But is it how they pronounce the words, or the way their voice sounds? No two people sound alike. Or do our voices sound the same regardless of which accent/dialect we speak? The tone of our voice is or is not shaped by the vowels we make ? Accents seem to disappear when singing (for the most part). I just noticed this. Most English could sound American when they sing or vice versa. What do Y'all think?
