Are Cypriots European or no?

Some Greek guy from Crete in this forum was telling me that Greek Cypriots are a bunch of Hellenized Phoenicians/Semites, so I decided to make this thread to hear the opinion of the majority.

Well, the Cypriots are genetically closer to West Asians, no? However, they speak Greek and identify with Greek/Hellenic culture so I suppose it depends on how you view it, my friend.

They are socially considered European. Genetically they are more in Levantine direction, but not completely.

Geographically they are an island, so they do not belong to any specific continent. Greek Cypriots are obviously European because of the language and ethnicity.

They're both genetically and geographically West Asian, so in that regard they are West Asian. But socially they'll always be considered European because of their religion and language, and most people aren't clued up on genetics/don't care. So I would say socially/culturally European, but genetically mainly West Asian. They're a distinct population either way.
