This is thread about new and developing town in Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The city of Еast Sarajevo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isto%C4%8Dno_Sarajevo) was created due to war circumstances, 25 years ago, when over one hundred thousand Serb refugees, residents of Sarajevo, had to leave their homes that belonged to the Muslim-Croat federation. Some of them started new lives and found their new homes just a few kilometers away, in Republika Srpska, building their completely new city.

25 years ago this was empty land and meadow.

The creation of this city is a great success of Serbs, knowing all the war, expulsions, sanctions, poverty and other aggravating circumstances that my people went through.

I am so proud on East Sarajevo Serbs. :thumb001:

Looks impressive, probably the most well planned city in the peninsula.

I would say it looks impresive, despite it was not planned at all before some 30 years ago.
As a result of war, Serb refugees from Sarajevo needed new homes. They could go somewhere - to Serbia, or to western countries, but some of them choosed to build a new city few kilometers away of their own homes. They had a vision.
I am so proud on Sarajevo Serbs. They suffered a lot from Muslim extremists during last war, they deserve to live happy in their new city, that is becoming more European and modern than Sarajevo proper.

Republika Srpska was better solution for Serbian refugees from Sarajevo and other parts of federacija than Serbia and especially than western countries. Serbian vast majority in RS must be preserved, it's our primary national interest. Except in East Sarajevo and Pale many Serbian refugees from Sarajevo settled in Bijeljina. Some of them of them ended up in Serbia and unfortunately in diaspora.

Trebinje as center of Serbian part of Herzegovina also has a future. Airport in Trebinje should be completed next year https://www.exyuaviation.com/2020/08/bosnias-trebinje-airport-targets-2022.html
Except airport, few other large projects are currently underway in Trebinje. Also in the last about 10 years Russians have begun to buy land in Trebinje and surrounding villages. Med climate and the Serbian environment suit them, plus Dubrovnik and Bay of Kotor are close. Bay of Kotor has a Serbian majority and Russians are always welcome guests there, regardless of the official policy of state Montenegro which is anti-Russian.
In Trebinje settled many Serbian refugees from federal part of Herzegovina (Mostar, Stolac, Čapljina etc) like many Serbs of Sarajevo settled in East Sarajevo, Pale and Bijeljina.

Ethnic Serb majority of Republika Srpska of course will be preserved, since +90% among newborns in each generations are ethnic Serbs.
Building a completly new city in Republika Srpska is outsanding all expectatins, knowing for weak economy that Srpska had after the war. Indeed impresive project.

This is pre-war ethnic map of Sarajevo and surroundings:

https://i.imgur.com/M2HjJ8z.png

red - Serbs
green - Muslims
blue - Croats

Purple line is border between Republika Srpska and Muslim-Croat Federation.

Black lines are borders of municipalities.

Yellow area is place where new city East Sarajevo is developing.

As you can see, most of surrounding settlements around Sarajevo were mostly Serb, with some 30% in city itself.

East Sarajevo is one of the rare cities/towns in former Yugoslavia which grows. There are many young married couples and children in East Sarajevo. Except Serbian refugees from Sarajevo who are the basis of population in East Sarajevo also settled Serbs from rural areas of East Bosnia (Republika Srpska) and Serbian part of Herzegovina.
In East Sarajevo there is solid number of small and medium-sized firms. Banja Luka in this segment is quite bellow East Sarajevo. Also, some people from East Sarajevo are employed in federal (Muslim) Sarajevo and in tourism on Jahorina https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jahorina

The most beautiful thing about new city East Sarajevo is that there are no Muslims and Croats. It is pure, ethnic 99% Serbian. :)

I don't like the architecture at all. It's a modern city built with car users in mind, with no walkable streets and ugly modernist buildings. Communistic in spirit, even if some churches were built here and there.
Most cities in the balkans have few beautiful old buildings built in a particular style, that's why they will never be popular touristic attractions.

That's the reason why it is a village, unlike this beautiful capital of BiH ;)

Not exactly. Serbs have destroyed many of these constructions, and Bosniaks mainly renovated it with some foreign investitions too for bigger constructions.

Beautiful?
The only beautiful building in Sarajevo is Orthodox Church.

Now when there are no more Serbs in Sarajevo proper, it is returning to be semi-Asiatic shithole, as it was until 1945. when Tito modernized Muslims.

It is only partially true. There were several cities before war (Pale, Sokolac etc.) and they have been connected into a new city. There are many new buildings, roads, municipalities, but it's not from nothing.

Everything from photos and videos posted here is built in last 25 years, in the meadow.
It is Istočno Novo Sarajevo municipality, not Pale or Sokolac.

And by the way, town of Pale almost doubled in population size in last 3 decades, from 7000 to 13000 inhabitants.

The flag of Republika Srpska and all Serbs was unfurled in East Sarajevo on the Day of the Republic - 9th January, which, according to officially available data, is the longest flag in Europe, it was announced from this local community.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0jrFkRtOiI

The flag was developed in Dečanska Street, and is 527 meters long and 4.6 meters wide.

Beautiful new Orthodox church in Pale.

Town of Pale (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pale,_Bosnia_and_Herzegovina) was capital of Republika Srpska during the war.

There is no wall, but everyone there know what is Serb part, and what is Bosniaks Muslims part.
From stories I heard, Bosniaks avoid East Sarajevo.
