The Mestizo Phenotype Spectrum: Castizos

Hey guys!.

So I am making a couple of threads about the Mestizo Spectrum, From Castizo all the way up to Indo-Mestizo, starting off with the Castizo Phenotype. I will show some examples and give a brief description of this phenotype/mix, so people who arent familiar with them, or are interested in this, can learn about them :). Anyone who wants to post and give examples themselves are free to, this is mainly a community post, so feel free.

Ill be posting examples of (mainly) celebs and social media personalities famous both in the United States and in Latin America that show the Castizo phenotype, now I would like to disclaim that these people are not necessarily castizos genetically, but ended up expressing a Castizo appearance, these people could vary from anything genotype wise, but their phenotype is what a Castizo would typically express, again this is to merely show the average castizo appearance, and not atypical expressions or examples.

Castizos:

Castizo is a mixed person of 1/4 Indigenous, 3/4 European ancestry (Tipically Iberian ancestry)

The original castizos were the children of a Spanish parent and a mestizo parent, today they usually are people who have around 70-80% european blood, the textbook castizo is around 75% euro and 25% native american.

Castizos usually look predominantly Iberian-European with either minor, faint, or some influences in some features, either in the eyes, nose, face shape, mouth, skin, or cheekbones, or all at the same time. Is not rare for a portion of castizos to be white passing, while another portion can end up looking a little "exotic" for a lack of a better word. I would believe that around 55-60% of castizos would be able to pass in Europe, while the other half can look usually Turkish, Jewish, or from the Levant, and sometimes they can pass in all of these mentioned areas combined, (I am not sure about North Africa, I would need North Africans opinions, so Ill leave that out for the moment).

Famous celebrities that look Castizo are Camila Cabello, Evaluna Montaner, Fabi Rosales, Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna, Angry Joe, Selena Gomez's Mother, and many more on this thread :).

Castizo can be considered the mestizo equivalent of a Quadroon in the mulatto spectrum

It's interesting that many castizos look romanians (and some more lighter types look ukranians or pseudo ukranians).

I don't understand why some people on here insist on discarding some genetic castizos because they are passable as full European. If they are genetically into the castizo range, then they are castizos and must be counted as such, regardless of how European they look. If they aren't counted as such, then we perpetuate the stereotype about castizos always looking exotic and no full European. But as the OP said, a good percentage of them could pass as full Euro.

Recently on 23andme i saw a mexican guy who looked very white despite being balanced genetically, but phenotypes looked almost pure white passing, but i cant find the post anymore and forgot to save it.

I sometimes have troubles to distinguish balanced mestizos and castizos. so sorry if my examples are wrong!

The first woman looks a little more on the Harniza range bro, and the second girl could be castiza, but shes still too young to tell.

Although some of the examples posted do display clear Amerindian influence, a lot of them just look like 'exotic Whites'. And LOL at Gabriel Garcia Bernal being a 'textbook Castizo' - he has played full Spaniards.

Well thats normal, many castizos can look like exotic whites, its one of the normal outcomes in the castizo spectrum. Gael Garcia Bernal is definetly one of the best examples of castizo along with Chicharito, I think its only natural for him to have played full Spaniards.

Yep, this thread is strictly just about the castizo phenotype, regardless of the individuals actual genetic percentages, they could be anything from 40 to 90% Euro but happened to express the castizo phenotype. Castizos are usually around 70 to 80% Euro, with the traditional one being around 75% Euro.

These individuals shown in here could be anything genotype wise, thats why this thread is only about the castizo Phenotype, and not genetical castizos, as it is to show what castizos would typically express in their pheno, I chose celebrities who look castizo but can be anything genetically. I already disclaimed this in the beggining of my thread.


Ill be posting examples of (mainly) celebs and social media personalities famous both in the United States and in Latin America that show the Castizo phenotype, now I would like to disclaim that these people are not necessarily castizos genetically, but ended up expressing a Castizo appearance, these people could vary from anything genotype wise, but their phenotype is what a Castizo would typically express, again this is to merely show the average castizo appearance, and not atypical expressions or examples.


Castizos usually look predominantly Iberian-European with either minor, faint, or some influences in some features, either in the eyes, nose, face shape, mouth, skin, or cheekbones, or all at the same time. Is not rare for a portion of castizos to be white passing, while another portion can end up looking a little "exotic" for a lack of a better word. I would believe that around 55-60% of castizos would be able to pass in Europe, while the other half can look usually Turkish, Jewish, or from the Levant, and sometimes they can pass in all of these mentioned areas combined.

Seguro? Mira yo la he visto, por decir en ciertas palabras...hmmmmm.... en otros ángulos xdxd, y a mi solo me parece como indo mestiza-mestiza, búscala en google se llama Laurie Vargas. Como es Mexicana se me hace extraño que tenga ese fenotipo, yo literal nada mas le veo lo nativo y lo euro, en mi humilde opinión, claro yo tmb soy muy clasificando o notando cierto SSA asi que yo puedo estar en lo incorrecto.

What about Dayana Mendoza, she looks really white but IMO has something "exotic", i see a slight epicanthic fold and her nose looks quite amerindian. Also look at her parents, on her instagram.

^^No creo que sea castizo. Pero SI es uno de esos "blancos" caribenos que salen con un fenotipo parecido. El es de Peravia que esta en el sur y esa una zona costera.

PD. Para el bobolon que me dio un pm diciendo que yo estaba mintiendo, carajo, claro que es mi trainer. Mira ahora mismo estaba hablando con el LMAO.

Vale, pero no pienso que mi profile genetica tiene importance mejor que mi color y fisical. En este mundo basamos a las personas en su primera impresión, que incluye aspectos físicos y también culturales. Pero si vives en los EE. UU. Es un crisol de culturas, por lo que las suposiciones son aún mayores. Así que muchas veces me confundiré con árabe, o algo así y no con portugués.

Basically, I’m just saying it’s funny how phenotype works and how these Castizos come out basically white. To me at least I see them as white, I wouldn’t be able to differentiate if I saw them in Spain or Portugal honestly (a lot of them)

Nah man, good portion can pass as such, but they still have native influences in their phenotypes, u look more european bcs your phenotype and genotype is unmixed.

Yo he visto dominicanos con esos rasgos que salen hasta como 28% de SSA. En su caso yo creo que el es pred. euro porque su familia es "blanca". Pero mas de 8% native no lo veo teniendo.

that's a copeeeee... I look straight arab, I look Palestinian. Dude I'm telling ya that small amerinidian influence on some of these people goes unnoticed in the grand scheme of things. Even tho I may be genetically more European than all of them they still pass in iberia way better, including yourself and you're not a castizo. And that's okay... people can be handsome, or beautiful regardless if they pass as European or not. I am just trying to get this discrepancy out of the way.
