Recently got sent these old photos by a friend, took photos of them and figured I'd pass it by you guys.

You've seen my present... state, you might as well compare and contrast with me, in my late '90s youth.

I think so, too. The more I age, the more I take after my father (who is also desi, but looks extremely atypical). The fewer elements of my mother remain, in my visage, to soften and warm my looks.

Indo Brachid

Description:
Indo Brachid proper, relatively recent Indid-Turano-Armenid contact type, probably the result of old Pashto, Saka, and Scythian migrations. Common from Southwestern India to Afghanistan, especially Gujarati, Maharashtra, and Eastern Pakistan. Typical in Nagar Brahmin, Kayastha, Kannada, Jat and Mir-Jat, South Baluchistan, sometimes Baloch, sporadically Indochina and Sumatra. Romani brought it to Europe.
Physical Traits:
Light to medium brown skin, straight or wavy hair. Medium height, mesoskelic, endomorph to ectomorph. Mildly brachycephalic, mildly hypsicranic with a flat occiput. Often convex, mildly leptorrhine nose. Face short. Overall similar to Indo Iranid, but less hairy, larger-headed, flatter-faced, higher-nosed, and shorter-statured, body hair scanter. Sometimes mildly slanting eyes and strong cheek bones.
Literature:
First named Homo indicus brachimorphus by Giuffrida-Ruggeri (1912). Risley (1917) called it Scytho-Dravidian, Eickstedt (1931, 1934) West (Indo-)Brachid, noting Turanid influence, Bernhard (1993) and Knussmann (1996) call it Indo Brachid. Lundman (1967), Giuffrida-Ruggeri (1921) and Biasutti (1967) linked it to Armenoid, so did Vallois (1971) as Alpo-Dinaric (his Anatolian / Armenoid).

Yes, the bright yellow areas means that the phenotype is more common in this area (for this phenotype; it would be Northwest/Central India, Pakistan and Afghanistan which is strongly Iranian/Indic in nature that follows the Indo-Iranian/Indo-Aryan Steppic migrations) . Dark yellow areas like the one in Eastern Turkey means that it is rare/less common, but has a marginal/minimal influence in that area.

To my surprise back then, I got that a lot from various people, especially Middle Eastern people.

To my eyes, I looked like a "typical" accountant/IT guy or other soft North Indian mummy's boy.
Even now, tbh, I think I looked like an Indian Harry Potter, with the glasses.

Lots of Turks down Kingsland Road...

Hmm, that seems more probable than Turkish or Middle Eastern.
Got plenty of family that have the big aubergine nose.

Height is a bit off. At 5'8, I'm pretty much the shortest male in my family, going back generations.
My father's around 6'3, my grandfather was a literal giant at 7'6ish, most of his, still living, cousins are 6'5 and upwards.

Our people, were known as "the tall people", by the bengalis, when they first settled in the region.

Can't lie, I've had other desis (especially Bangladeshis in London) assume I'm non-desi, and many Turkish/European people assume I'm Turkish.

Whenever I close my eyes though, I see some Bollywood flick, from the '90s, with a Delhi mummy's boy pining over some gorgeous bint in a saree... lol.

I've really had weird interactions with Turks, ever since I moved down this part of London. I wasn't aware that there was a large Turkish presence, on Kingsland Rd, or Shoreditch in general.

I do get the Iranian thing, but honestly, I think I just look like a kashmiri-punjabi-bengali blend.

As far as I know there are many Turkish Cypriots in UK but not Anatolian Turks.

I am totally ignorant of the specifics. Made a drastic mistake at uni, as a result. Introduced some of my Greek friends to this Turkish friend ... lol.

The funniest reaction I got was from this Turkish newsagent who literally compared skin colour with me, because he got offended that I said I was "light brown"/"North Indian" type Bangladeshi (he asked where I was from, originally). He was convinced I had "Turkish blood", and that *we'd* get the Ottoman empire back up and all the way to India!

Seriously, this was what he thought was appropriate to share with a random customer!

Yes, but those maps are bullshit anyway, many times phenotypes extend way beyond them

Your eye shape, especially as visible in the first photo, is somewhat common among Turks.
Not sure about classification, but I can see you passing from Turkey to the Indian subcontinent mainly. First guess would be Levantine.
I disagree that you looked more Indian when young. I think you passed bether further North and West back then.

I guess the beard makes me look more middle eastern, these days. I definitely miss my hair. lol.

I thought I looked a little like the Hispanic (Mexican?) guy from CHiPS, in my first photo. Especially the hairstyle.

Anyway, it's interesting to read your thoughts on the matter. Thanks.

I do feel a little similarity with the /pol/ meme...
