View Full Version : Could DNA tests be modern day horoscopes?

I'm sure I will get thumbed down a lot for saying this... I believe (unpopular opinion) that these company DNA tests (23andme , Ancestry, Heritage, etc) are the Horoscopes "what's my sign?" of the 2010s. Mainly I say this because

1.These tests are not completely accurate
2. They are speculative 50% and people take them at their word
3. The tests run an average of $70 to $150 and people think for such a cheap price they can get true results? Most legit DNA tests run well over $400 and possibly more
4. People often do not have lineage or documentation to back up these results and then they will switch to "I thought I was I-talian, now I'm Irish!" They will start conforming to what they believe is true and adopt those traits(Aries, Scoropio, etc)
5.The DNA results are treated like a horoscope the same kind of "let's guess what the stars hold for me" mentality

What is true? They want to collect our DNA samples for a large database and track us that way without our knowledge!

Here is an example of two twins who results are all over the place. Companies admit that they often do not even bother to check the alogrhyhim matches and much of it is very random

Of course they are not 100% accurate but they give clues about where the tested person's ancestors are from.
