I've seen a Székely with 82% Magyar and 17% West Slavic. Is the Magyar sample mostly from Conquerors? I've never seen such a high Magyar percentage before.

He has Q-M242 Y-DNA. This is very common among Turkic people.

Obviously it is based on modern Hungarians, most likely Hungarians from Romania and that explains why Szekelys score it high. FTDNA does not use ancient samples for their ancestry composition.

I am curious about that too, since I got 11% of Magyar component.

Do you have ancestry from Vojvodina?

I think it's similar to Pannonia on LivingDNA; probably based on a mix of modern people from Hungary

I would see it as a 60:40 to 70:30 between West Slavic and Greek & Balkan.

I got 7% Magyar. Seems like they give it to everyone like they (or some other company?) were doing with the Scottish component before.

So yeah, I would take the Magyar component on FTDNA with a huge grain of salt.

No, I don't.
I live in Pannonian plain, but all my ancestors are from Dinaric Alps.
Thats make it even more mysterious.

Me and several other half/full Hungarians here on the forum score big LivingDNA Pannonia, but very little or none of the FTDNA Magyar. In fact, from what I remember mostly people without Hungarian ancestry were scoring it.

But very interesting that a Székely scores a lot of it, this could gives us some clues about their sample.

It's not so mysterious, Bosnia was part of Austria-Hungary, many hungarian official and soldier lived in Bosnia. Obviously your grand great-great grandfather ot mother was hungarian.

Magyar component of cca 10% seems not rare among Serb results on FTDNA.
Some of these are from central Serbia, some from Bosnia, some from southern Serbia etc.

While Living DNA gave me 74% Pannonian, FTDNA gave me only 13% Magyar.
I agree with Stearsolina, it is probably a "Székely based" Hungarian component.

My grandmother also didn't get any Magyar on FTDNA, instead of that she got Inuit and North Amerindian 1-1%. On Living DNA she is ~70% Pannonian.
But she has a Székely relative from Covasna/Kovászna county who got 79% Magyar and 3% Mongolia.

Possibly, but could be more due to sample being based on limited Szekely sample.
I remember how Szekely member Chris clustered closely with Serbs.

FTDNA is not very good imo.
My last updated ethnicity report from them was terrible.
Living DNA for me was much better.

Nonsense! Stears should have the highest percentage because he is part Szekeler.

Stears scores like this:

65% West Slavic
32% Italian Peninsula
<2% Finland
<2% Southern Caucasus

FTDNA is trash for ancestry composition :(
