Big surprise. Many south Africans are of Dutch origin, hence strong Nordid/CM admixture. Plus sunny climate in south Africa even further highlights their light pigmentation (Australia is similar case)
Btw Boers do have minimal SSA input in their genetics regardless of their look.

That's correct indeed. If you stick to 23andMe, they usually have SSA in the range of 0.5 to 3% but surprisingly often also a few percentages South Asian and/or East Asian. These are no reliable statistics now, but from what I've seen the non European parts in Boers often sum up to 5%.
And you regularly see nothing, so you really get misled if you just go for looks.
