View Full Version : Is getting white hair instead of gray more of an Eastern European thing?

So I`m turning 30 next month and I started "graying" some months ago. Now its snow white instead of the usual gray I experience. I`ve noticed a lot of slavic people turning white instead of gray and also my father, as well as his mother (dont know my grandpa on this side, as he fell against Soviet occupation), who are of Hungarian/Slowak origin have white hair also. Is this an UP thing, Eastern European or rather random? My Western side of family got gray instead.

Its common here especially in eastern Anatolians.

I don't think that correct, you must have poor lifestyle schedule encouraging your deterioration. Not that I watch this things intensely, but I was born bald/blonde and now I am Middle Eastern of the highest order

Nah, it`s rather genetic, as my father was completely "gray" at his mid 30s. I eat well and also my lifestyle and job is very active and demanding.
I just dont really age well.

Idk, it probably depends on the individual. My grandma's hair is totally white, my grandpa's hair is mostly grey. He's a romanian/greek looking man but he's probably genetically eastern / similar to other hungarians.

No one actually has gray hair - it just looks that way when you have strands of dark and white hair.

Like 15% through my East Prussian grandma. That mystery grandpa I've never known turned out German instead of Hungarian. It was a mock up story fabricated by my paternal family, cause they were ashamed of him. Still turning whiter by the day.

I tell you what, I'm not even 30 and I already have several white patches of hair on the back of my head.

Grey hair is white hair. White hair look is just affecting more hairs on the head I think.
I started going grey at 37 but it went grey in a cool way that people say is attractive (grey at the temples). If I didn't have grey hair I'd still look like my 20s.

I think every family on earth has a mock up story like this. Ours was of a Swedish soldier, lol. I'm sure whoever thinks these stories up was not counting on DNA testing to become a thing. :D
To offer my super duper useful anecdote: Most people in my family ended up with whiter hair. The more Nordid-oriented, the whiter the hair. The Alpignids get salt and pepper, but there are not many of them. My armchair theory is that it probably has about as much to do with phenotype as it does with ethnicity. Lol

I have light brown hair and some of it has turned white, not grey. I'm only 1/4 Eastern European.

It's likely no myth that shock and/or stress can turn your hair white. My mom had a friend whose hair went from coal to snow after her child was killed in a car crash.

Exactly specially dealing with shitty customers, it has nothing to do with race .

My Mom had an aunt who was engaged to be married when she was 19 but her man died and her hair went completely white in a year. She never married.

It happens. I got my first Brett Favre beard hair when my mom got cancer.

My hair became grey faster in 2016.
That year my dad died. :(

I had a bad job when I was 37 and it massively stressed me out (now I don't stress no matter what) and I'm 100% certain it's what caused my hair to change grey quickly.
