Employees stopped managers leaving the site on Tuesday when talks over the potential closure of the facility near the town of Bellegarde came to a head. The owner is the British company Scapa Group.

A company official said local police had been alerted and were expected to free the managers on Wednesday.

Really that's good policing, people are held hostage without weapons and it takes them that long to be let go?

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has condemned the repeated detentions of management personnel and said the state would not allow them to continue. "We live in a state of law. I will not let these things happen," he said earlier this week.

Obviously he is unable to deliver on that promise.
