This is what I was thinking. If he is from Apulia he may be descended from the Illyrians, which means he would share some origins with modern Albanians.

He's sicilian , and in Sicily (like also in Apulia,Calabria,Basilicata etc.) there are many arbereshe community .
He probabilly has arbereshe ancestors.

No, Western Turks are not similar to Greeks at all. They are descended at big numbers from muslim Balkanites who fled to Turkey after the Ottoman Empire fell. The rest of Western Turks are typical West Asians.
