It's gotta be said!!! For all the talk about south Italy being significantly darker than iberians it's bs fairy tale idea in reality. I changed my location to Naples and other parts of south Italy on tinder and they look indistinguishable in pigmentation to Spaniards and Portuguese on average. In terms of pigmentation and traits I can see literally no difference basically. So they are definitely dark-washed by a lot on this site for no good reason. Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk. SKin pigementation is like 99% to do with genes and like 1-2% to do with environment, and even if south italians got more MENA on avg and plot more southwards it doesn't make much of a difference overall. I'm not obsessed, i like dark people the most if I'm being honest. I think pale skin is an invent of only recent times amigo all stemming from the yamnaya peoples. And even then ancient north europeans weren't even that light, nor were germanic europeans in general... this is a recent obsession by nordicists... it's simply explained by selective breeding of lighter features bc i guess light folk in north europe were a fetish. Ancient Romans were pretty dark compared to modern italics bc of germanic invasions and all that jazz :)... but they were probably more like the Greeks than celtic mixed germanic, italic types found in the north. Features are way more important than pigmentation... iberians are on avg darker bc most have significant moorish, and crypto sephardi ancestry. Pontic Greeks from the Turkish side of the Black Sea coast are almost entirely native Caucasus hunter gatherer + Steppe and Med component from the colonization period. There is nothing Levantine or Turkic looking about them on average. Italians from South to the North are more Mediterranean by appearance and ancestry than them.

Peloponnesians still cluster North of Sicilians on average, but certain areas get very close. Either way you still see Southern Italians as your national shame (just look at the dozens of separatist movements), same cannot be said for Pontians and Cypriots.

I changed my location to Naples and other parts of south Italy on tinder and they look indistinguishable in pigmentation to Spaniards and Portuguese on average. I agree. Some Southern Italians can be very tanned but they still look very Mediterranean/Southern European. They don’t resemble darker skinned North Africans as many Maghrebis tend to have SSA admixture which in many cases can be visible in their phenotype. Something that Southern Italians and Iberians don’t have. And they don’t look Saharid either. To me they look like regular Southern Europeans with a darker skin tone. I would appreciate it if you could answer mine.
