At first I thought it was due to the strongly foreign mixtures in the European context (Taforalt/iberomaurusian and SSA) but it is an exaggeration to only attribute it to these components when they rarely exceed 6% both among the Iberian population.

My main suspicion now is that the Iberians retain more ancestry from the Neolithic period than the rest and that only a contribution from the recent steppe made them closer to the Europeans, discuss.

The Catalans and Basques tend to overlap with the more southern French, but those from Alsace, for example, are closer to the English than any Spanish region. There comes a geographical point where the Iberians are relatively very far from the others europeans.
