They are noted to have bowel issues such as Chron's disease and ulcerative colitis. I wonder if that's why they may seem to have an unusual fecal obsession. Given the nature of inbreeding, it's possible that they have an intolerance to certain foods as well and this causes their neurotic nature. I don't think that he was normal though or typical of your average Jew.
