Uyghurs

I finished working on my presentation on the Uyghurs yesterday for my Chinese refresher course and realized that I had a ton of great pictures of these fascinating people. While the Uyghurs currently speak a Turkik language, their Indo-European ancestry (Tocharian to be precise) is apparent through both the oddness of their appearance and the frequency of the R1a haplogroup amongst their males. While they're not European by any stretch of the imagination, they're some of the most interesting anthropological specimens I've ever run across. Enjoy!

I don't have anything against Uyghurs but it looks like that they are culturally very Islamized/Iranified and Uyghurs even use a Perso-Arabic alphabet. They don't have many similarities with the old Uyghurs at least not culturally. It seems to me that they are closer to Iranian Tajiks than to Kazakhs or Kyrgyz

The most interesting thing about Uyghurs is their genes. They are exactly Eurasian. A mixture between East and West coming together!

I didn't say that Uyghurs are not Turkic. I've just said that they are culturally very Islamized compared to Kazakhs or Kyrgyz who are culturally closer to original Turkic culture.

I don't say that they should assimilate into Chinese culture but it's also bad to be assimilated by the Arabic culture. Of course according to you all atheist Turkics must be self haters:picard1:. Islam is not Turkic culture anyway.

Islam is not only part of Arabic culture but also Turkish Culture. I´m not very religious myself too but if you loose your religion there is very less that will withold you from assimilating.

Islam is a part of Turkish culture yes but Islam is not a part of Turkic culture. Islam is just Arab imperalism nothing more. Arabic is the paradise language and it's forbidden to pray the surahs of the Quran in another language. Arabs replaced the old traditions, culture and religions of Turks, Iranians, Indonesians and other ethnicities who call themselves Muslim today. Islam IS Arabic culture with an Arab god, Arab heritage and Arab traditions. Why should I live by the moral values of Bedouin Arab Nomads which are written in the "holy" Quran?
