Expert group criticises systemic racism in Switzerland

Black people in Switzerland face everyday discrimination as well serious racial profiling by the police, a United Nations working group has said.

January 26, 2022

After a 10-day fact-finding mission, the group said in a statementExternal link on Wednesday that it was “concerned about the prevalence of racial discrimination and the human rights situation of people of African descent in Switzerland”.

A 59-point document outlined the various problems faced by black people in the country, including what it called “shocking reports of police brutality and the expectation of impunity for police misconduct, extending over decades”.

If they don't like it, they could always go back to Africa.

There shouldn't have been any blacks in Switzerland, to begin with.

How would you react if there was evidence of regular police violence and discrimination against Westerners in e.g. Angola or Nigeria?

Blacks are not controlled because of their colors but because they are overrepresented in criminal behavior and activities, which is just a statistical fact. Police can't use their time to control local grandmas, that would be a terrible waste of public ressources, they proportionally go right at the core population that is causing the most public troubles and where they have the most chances to find illegal stuff going on, weither they publicly admit it or not, it's the only efficient strategy. Before immigration, police was going at travellers, who are as white as other people, just travelling from camps to camps...nobody gave a shit about them being profiled as criminals.

The only way this so called racism could end is if blacks would change collectively their behaviors over time and not always blame somebody else or the society for their actions. It's not about their color, it's what they do. Of course at some point it's associated with the color too but that's the consequence, not the initial cause.

I would agree that black Africans are in their homeland in such places, just like Europe is the homeland of Europeans and their descendants. In that hypothetical scenario, white Westerner's facing that violence and discrimination would be better off if they go back to Europe.

I never visited Switzerland but I believe there are lots of Swiss born and-or Swiss raised Afros in Switzerland. In their cases, it would not be going “back” to Africa. Their ancestors obviously came from African background but it doesn’t mean they are the same person as their ancestors, mother, father etc.

Switzerland is diverse, I don't think we are that racist. You have to certainly work if you come here.
A person who won't work, can't survive in Switzerland.
