View Full Version : Do you flush when drinking alcohol?

Inspired by the Lactose Intolerance thread.
A friend of mine (german) flushes badly after only two beers, also he starts to breath heavily and sweat profoundly. He also gets sick pretty fast this way. He doesnt have this reaction with Vodka or Gin though. (May be the purer consistence or the lack of histamines) I know this is rather seldom in Europeans but not unheard of.
So my question is: do you experience this yourself or maybe know someone who does have this reaction?

No, I have a high tolerance to alcohol when I consume it in moderate levels.

I flush quickly. Just a few sips of any kind of alcohol.

Um, depends which type of alcohol, with whiskey and wine, it goes out fast, with Vodka, Hennessey or beer it takes way longer.

The drunk sunburn? Nope. I think it's common among Asians.

No, alcohol doesn't make me happy or help me to drown my sorrows, it doesn't have any effect on me anymore so I don't drink at all or only very sporadically.

No. But if I have enough I get bulging veins at the forehead, along the temples. Can't be good.

No, and though I live in a city with a big academic partying tradition and participating in it a lot, I can say I'm not even sure if I ever saw it happen. It's not really much of a thing here, for genetic reasons I presume. I hardly new of it anyway, had to google what it meant.

No. I should add "unfortunately" because maybe it would push me to imbibe a bit less;)

I have never heard of this concept.
Now that I think about it, my father's face gets a little red when he drinks. He tolerates alcohol well though, he claims he never has hangover.
