Where does fine hair in Europeans come from?

By "fine" I do not mean thinning/balding hair, because these two are associated apparently? I have a full head of hair, but it's very fine. Not thick..

From what I can see, most of the world's population has thick hair. Why did certain people develop fine hair? It seems like it's mostly north European ethnicities with this type of hair? I would love to learn more about it.

It`s a mechanism to allow more sun to come through to the scalp.

genetic drift most likely, it probably evolved slowly from a more typical non white hair strain.
