In Kočevje from 14th century to 1945. lived Germans who were not Danube Swabians as in Vojvodina, Hungary, Slavonia and western Romania, but descendants of medieval settlers from Austria. Slovenians from Kočevje area have German influence, same goes for Maribor. My father was in high school in Maribor. Owner of house where he was during the that period had German surname, but he was declared Slovenian.
