I can associate with that. I used to be fat until my midteens (15-17) when I started to lose weight, but I didn't become obsessive with how much fat I had. I just started to hate on fat people, pretty much like my elder brother used to do with me (I regret a lot for repeating the same mistake). I don't hate fat people, but I can't deny that it plays a big role in the dating word (and there's nothing wrong with that, because humans are also animals, and it's natural to have standarts).
