Lol i like Benidorm, it has character and an upbeat feel to it, it's englishness is part of it's charm and the fact that you will not encounter the sort of stuffiness that can plague more middle class resorts. The English in Spain are generally a positive feature rather than a negative one, i feel much safer and more welcome walking round an English ghetto in Spain than i would walking around some ghettos that you tend to find in London and Birmingham.

I agree, British people in general are quite easily distinguishable from the general native Spanish population of the places they go on vacation, for example the Catalan coast.

The population overlap between the British Isles and the Iberian Peninsula in terms of physical appearance, although it is not non-existent, is quite small, and in any case it is more common in terms of physical features than pigmentation.

It does not bother me and it is something that is very localised in a tourist spot or several tourist spots, it does not interfere and is not significant for the natives, we do not even remember it or have it in mind. It wouldn't bother me for any other ethnic minority or foreign community to have their meeting points and for them to have their own aesthetics of their different cultural styles, it's healthy for them.

In Spain we have just received immigration and right now we are totally invaded.

And well, they have brought customs and ways of doing things from underdeveloped countries and they are not in ghettos, they are among the general population, nothing to do with a simple street with English pubs in a tourist spot that is somewhat invisible to the general population. They are among us and they have lowered their standards in shops, bars and restaurants.

They sleep inside food shops, they don't keep fruit or vegetables in fridges at closing time, in Chinese bars after taking the previous drinks they don't clean the table, shops inside mend any broken glass with duct tape, cut toenails at the door of the bar, shop signs of exotic cultures, bread in small supermarkets lying on the floor in front of the open toilet door, literally rotten potatoes for sale, I have seen things unthinkable in Spain even in the 1970s or during the evolution of tourism and development. Someone told me that the authorities had told the inspectors to be tolerant of foreign shops.

The strange thing is that Spaniards tend to be quite demanding and complain and yet they put up with all this, when if the businesses were owned by fellow Spaniards they would not tolerate it and would call attention to Spanish commerce, and it may be because perhaps the exoticism or the thought that they are helpless souls who come to earn a living clouds the reason of Spanish consumers who observe it as if it were a kind of National Geographic.
