This result looks like he shifts a little West of modern Hungary. He was 1/8 English I believe, so that is probably a factor. Also, I'm not sure how high quality the sample is and what kind of SNP coverage it has on GEDmatch calculators.

How did you get his K36

There was a thread about him on Anthrogenica, a guy posted his K36.

He is suprisingly west shifted even for being 1/8th english.

I took a look at where he plots on G25 PCA, a little west of Hungarian average, but still within the Hungarian cluster I think.

The paper states:

"We first projected the autosomal data onto the first two principal components (PCs)47 built with modern-day West-Eurasian genetic variation (Fig. 1) 39. The King’s genome falls in close proximity to present-day populations from Croatia and Hungary. Comparable patterns were obtained from the clustering algorithm implemented in ADMIXTURE48 where Bela III shares a similar genetic profile with present-day Eastern European populations (Figure S3)."

So, I imagine his ancestry was somewhat unique for Hungary at the time (compared to local population) being that his recent ancestry included lots of marriages between noble families.

Also, I'm still not sure where his K36 originally comes from. I assume it is available on GEDmatch or something as nobody over on Anthrogenica questioned it's legitimacy. I'd like to see his results on more calculators (K13, K15).

Interesting the Nature article mention central asian ancestry for iirc his ydna hap but so far his autosomal dna not showing any central asian or ugric. He looks very European on the k36 and G25 but unsure how accurate the G25 would be as not from his raw data.
There must be his K13 and other gedmatch results too.Hopefully we will see them soon.
