Which group is genetically closer to Southern Slavs overall?

Intermediate, but it depends on which South Slavic group you mean. Slovenes are much more North Slavic-like, Bulgarians and North Macedonians are much more Greek-like etc.

Serbs are genetically closer to Thessalian Greeks than to West Slavs and closer to Greeks as a whole than to hard core Slavs (Eastern Poles, Belarusians, Ukrainians, SouthWest Russians).
Many Serbs are closer to Bulgarians than to Croats, regardless of language.
Well, the Russians themselves on this forum are racist towards Serbs and confuse them with Chechens (Russki, black hole, Veles , Kivan etc)

You should specify the South Slavs

Slovenians and Croats are almost identical with West Slavs while a good portion of Bulgarians and SlavMacos cluster with Northern Greeks (and vice versa). Serbs vary depending from the region.

Macedonians yes , Bulgarians only South regions cluster with South Macedonians aka "North Greeks".

Serbs look very different from Chechens.

Serbs are closer to Czechs/Slovaks than to Greeks, and since Czechs/Slovaks classify as Northern Slavs, the answer to this thread is Northern Slavs.

The most dominant and populous south Slavic ethnicities are Serbs and Bulgarians , and they are closer to Greeks in colours and somewhere indermediate to Greeks and North Slavs in Phenotypes.

Some people confuse Dinarid with Caucasian types. Dinarid is full European type and one of few most common types among Serbs. Caucasian looking Serbs are very rare, in the similar amount as Turkic looking Serbs (Serbian singer from video for example).
