Celts were most probably varied in both genotype and phenotype. Anyway it is dubious if "Insular Celts" have strong connections to Continental Celts. It would be amazing if anyone knows what the original Celtic phenotype is when there is still so much unknown about the Celts.

Why not 100% NW Euro? Not all NW Euros are Nordics . . . .
ENF were in N. Europe too, so meds, dinarics and others occour too. . .
He can be a Crypto-Jew too but he can be a full british easily

Looking at him here I believe he is fully Welsh. His features aren't atypical. In fact he reminds me of Ciarán Hinds especially with the pronounced cheek bones. His skin colour is a bit darker but believe me there are some natives (even in Ireland) that have darker skin it is just that it is a small percentage but it does happen. Also John Cale was born in 1942 and both parents were Welsh with his mother being a Welsh speaker and John only learned English at school when 7. Most people know if they have some different ancestry and I'm sure if John had it would be known. It's not like he's from London where you could find some exotic ancestry. Of course now things are different everywhere but someone born in 1942 in some village in Wales is not likely to have some unusual ancestry.

I think videos give a more accurate idea of what people look like. I've come across people that when you look at their picture you think they look exotic or foreign but then if you find a video of them they don't look as unusual. Also with this man if you look at his background it's fairly obvious he's fully Welsh. If you go back to late 1800s and if people have ancestry from a certain area they don't usually have "foreign" ancestry. Historically Welsh might have some Scottish, Irish or English ancestry in the woodpile because people have always been moving back and forth between those areas but it is unusual to get something more foreign except in capital cities and larger centres as this is where immigrants are mostly attracted to.

Just looking at my ancestry I've only went back to the late 1700s but haven't found anyone born outside of Ireland.
