Media watchdog Ofcom imposed the fine as punishment for the Andrew Sachs scandal, in which Brand and Jonathan Ross made obscene remarks about the actor's granddaughter during a Radio 2 broadcast.

Writing on his Twitter page, Brand said: "I have decided to pay the Ofcom fine. I'll put it on my expense account. Oh no, I don't have one because I'm a citizen not a corrupt MP."

He also wrote: "Shamed MPs are exploiting us and misusing their expense accounts. They want us to be distracted from this. I'm going to write about it now."

In an earlier posting, the controversial comedian attacked Justice Secretary Jack Straw, who had joined calls for Brand and Ross to pay the fine out of their own pockets, and made reference to Straw's son receiving a police caution for trying to sell cannabis to an undercover reporter in 1997.

"I demand Jack Straw pay the £7bn he squandered on the Iraq war that we didn't want. No wonder his son has to toke himself to sleep," Brand wrote. He also demanded: "What do 'ofcom' do with all that money? What is their mandate? I think they spend it all on porn. As had of 'ofporn' I fine them £150000."

Brand, 33, resigned from his Radio 2 show last year after the Andrew Sachs controversy prompted 45,000 complaints from the public. Ross kept his job and the majority of his £18 million salary.

His criticism of "shamed MPs" was aimed in part at Jacqui Smith, whose expense claim included two pornographic films watched by her husband. She is also under pressure to justify a wealth of claims for her "second home" in Redditch, Worcestershire, which include a barbeque, patio heater and toothbrush.

I'd much prefer for each TV licence fee payer to be able to line up and have one good, clean punch right to that idiots face for the insufferable crap he has subjected our televisions to.

Yes, particularly this TV programme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbAKUdEWzq8) where both him and (somewhat admittedly) Mark Collett make fools of themselves.
