After finding out that they rightly chose Theron for the evil beauty but then, disappointingly, also chose that Twilight girl for Snow White, I feel forced to ask all of you, masters of racial casting: What actress would you choose for Snow White? :)

(Remember that she's usually portrayed as a young very beautiful very light-skinned but very dark-haired Europid) ;)

Bloodgood would be better for the blond native princess if they ever make a Dragonlance film, IMO.

Gemma Arterton is quite a good option, Tref! A tad too old maybe, because I figure SW to be 24 or under, but she's certainly worth the role. A British accent helps too. I liked her as Io in Clash of the Titans, probably the only thing I liked in that movie. :D

Frankly, when I saw her many years ago in Panic Room, I thought she was a very promising actress and even told someone about it. (I tend to guess it right, the same happened to me with Knightley when nobody knew who she was :D.) But I'm a bit disappointed now. I hope she gets better roles as she grows older, and that she doesn't always show that stomachache look on her face. She's not ugly at all, just not so beautiful as to surpass Theron's. But then, I concede it's a matter of taste.

I actually don't mind "edgy" reworkings of the classics, as long as they really are edgy, and not just pretending to be and pandering to the audience's desire to feel sophisticated.

I think a Snow White with some tasteful punk/goth sensibilities would work -- the operative word here being "tasteful", that is, Tim Burton would not be allowed on the same continent during pre-production and filming.

Well, the women in my pictures are respectively 29, 41, and 32-34 (?)...it's not that they're "child looking" but that they have soft, rounded features and look fresh and natural and innocent, rather than hard ...which I think makes sense for Snow White. I'd say that it is obvious why she must look young. She IS young in the story. And innocent.

I also think nobody doubts about her skin having to be pale and rosy, and her hair having to be black. The question could be: what about her eyes? They have been depicted as blue on many occasions, but usually brown in the 20th century (specially since Disney). So I guess her eye colour is something of a personal taste.

I personally wouldn't go quite that far, but I'm not a fan of hers because I don't...get it.

To me she seems very average, lacking in any sort of unusual beauty or even spectacular charisma or charm of personality. She seems sort of like an anti-celebrity to me.

I do know what you mean by awkward, in that she isn't terribly feminine, and by that I mean she strikes me as a 'tomboy', and it seems odd to cast her in a role that seems so traditionally feminine and innocent.

That's just my personal taste, though.
