His father's ancestry is 1/4 Breton, 1/4 Burgundian, 3/8 Normand and 1/8 Île-de-France, with a distant Austrian ancestor who was a prisonner from the napoleonic wars who decided to stay in France and marry a local girl. Ironically a few years later the Austrians occupied the region he settled in following Napoleon's downfall.
His mother's ancestry is 7/8 from Bearn (a region next to Basque Country) and 1/8 Basque.

Interesting, I wonder from where comes this cliché of Med French. Maybe because of intense mixing with Southern Euros, Sephardic and Maghrebi peoples these last decades. On another hand, on old photographies and films (like WW1 era, etc.), French often look very Med, much more than today's ethnic French.

It can be expanded towards the French-speaking regions of the North and East. Walloons, for example, are historically, culturally and linguistically frencher than Bretons, Occitans or Savoyards.
