Ancestry Genetic Communities Changed

Has anyone noticed that their GCs have changed? I've checked and both mine and my daughter's GCs have changed.

I still have Central Ireland but lost Roscommon which is where my father is from. Also my daughter still has North Tipperary and I've lost it even though it is through my mother and her Grandmother. Also I have North Leinster now as well as her but she has lost her Wicklow, Carlow and Wexford GC. I don't know of any North Leinster ancestry but she has recent on her father's side.

One thing I like about Ancestry out of all the commercial companies is that they keep updating. I personally would recommend them over the other companies for that fact alone. They also have the large trees and records if people want to research further.

I've only lost my Irish sub-communities of North Leinster & Roscommon, which is no big deal as the remaining GCs of Leinster & Central Ireland cover my ancestry well. My ancestor from Roscommon (Athlone) was 6 generations ago, so it's not going to be genetically detectable.

It's strange that you get Leinster/North Leinster.

Yes I don't know where that is coming from although I can't go back any further than about 4 generations ago on my family tree.

My sister and uncle ended up with the "Southeastern & Central New York Settlers" group but not me. My uncle also got "Ulster, Ireland".

It is interesting if you have some close relatives on there to compare GCs. It is interesting your uncle gets North Monaghan and South Fermanagh. Do you have any ancestry from those parts?

I have myself, daughter and a cousin on there. Cousin is on the paternal side and they get the Roscommon and Bordering counties under Central Ireland.

It is interest because my sister missed out on some Cork regions that I had. I seem to take after my Grandfather's side more than she does with more south Munster ancestry. I think it's probable that we have a small amount of Ulster ancestry like my uncle although I don't know any relatives from that region. It would make sense considering the "Blue Ridge Mountain" North Carolina genetic group is far more like to be Ulster related that south Ireland. It probably comes from my mom's maternal grandparents. Interesting to see the contrast in genetic groups with your family as well.

Cousin above gets Ulster but has no known Ulster background although I think most Irish would have links to all the areas if you go back far enough. I believe these genetic communities are favorable for Irish-Americans because so many of them take these DNA tests. It's like a relatively small country getting a huge sample size. I think it is a good thing because you can get super refined genetic regions in Irelands.

I've wondered about the 23&Me results also. I just found it odd that I got just likely for my results while many Americans are getting very likely even though they are more removed i.e. their Irish is further back. It might not be the case but it did make me wonder.

Mine didn't change. Its pretty due for rework. Especially when i see who score Croatia and Western Balkans. Nonsense.

I could see countries like Australia or Canada having equal or greater amounts of commercial genetic testing proportionally compared to the US, it's just that the American population is so much larger plus easy access to all genetic tests here skew the results.

I gave up a long time ago on Ancestry's communities, I tested about 7 years ago and they've never altered.

Had my parents tested about 2 years ago, and neither of theirs were included in mine.

I'm anxiously awaiting to see if Ancestry will assign me UK or Ukraine communities, since I only have 1 community I would be super happy if they could assign me a few more in an update.
