View Full Version : Classify Flemish actor Ward Kerremans
I find it “funny” that in a series, he plays the role of a typically White, Flemish boy, from a good family, who has Moroccan friends (as you can read in his interview here: https://aso.scheppers-mechelen.be/ward-kerremans/)

What is so typical about him?
Any other opinion? Here are other pictures of Ward Kerremans:

I don't know exactly. But I know it is not some Spanish contribution as sometimes is rumoured. Actual Romans probably neither, as they were a (ruling) minority during the Roman empire... So I assume the migration period is the most important contribution.

I'm not sure it's that. For ex., my husband is like that too and he's just Belgian, and he is really into genealogy and he had a dna test done.
His dna test: https://www.theapricity.com/forum/showthread.php?331739-Laly%92s-husband-results-%96-please-help!

It is from Roman period, partially... But not actual Romans themselves..as they are the founding minority of the empire.
And why are you not comfortable with the way we look? Or was that just a reference of him spilling milk?

I did not say that in reference to a picture I posted, but concerning Belgians in general. I feel that we are a subject of mockery, including because of the way we look, compared to our neighbours, for ex. I would have preferred to belong to a dreamier people.

Interesting. I had a Belgian girlfriend who looked almost Maghrebi, her sister even more. Yet there was no evidence of any foreigner in her family history (only rumors of an Italian grand grand grand grand mother but that couldn't explain such a look).
Imo it's probably related to some old Neolithic migrations. By contrast, Northern French coastal regions (Normandy, Somme, Pas-de-Calais, Nord) received a lot of Anglo-Saxon settlers during the migration era. This could explain why they are often whiter than Belgians (and North-eastern French).

Neolithic? But this tendency in phenotype staying in one place for thousands of years sounds kind of weird.

Weird. I don't want to look Dutch or German. Of which I don't think they are particularly dreamy. As matter of fact, I think Belgians are the most dreamy of western Europe. If you talk about actual (day)dreaming, that is.

Who would be responsible for that, if not "Romans themselves"? It's still not clear.

So, you see a big difference?
Ward Kerremans or my husband don't have an Italian look but a distinctively North-Western/Belgian look?

Other populations in and around the Roman empire. Mostly from southeast.

This Italian man is probably long headed in profile view.

I just know Belgians lean towards the southeast compared to Dutch or English. Like your husband's test result is around Pannonia. And what darkish peoples do you think there were in late roman and early medieval times?https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2d/Invasions_of_the_Roman_Empire_1.png

Thank you for your answer. But is there any evidence that these Huns & co would have had a significant impact on Belgians’ genes? How come we don’t hear about such thing anywhere?
By the way, I don’t know if you had seen in my husband’s thread, but according to member Piotrashke, my husband is Est/North-Est shifted:
https://i.imgur.com/RO4hT8p.jpg
He also made his similarity map to European populations based on K36 results:

I admit that I am extremely ignorant concerning genetics, I still don’t understand much regarding it. But I really want to understand why the Belgians are the way they are.

I only know you need a test that goes far back in time and that most DNA tests are going back a few hundred years. And that certain "exotic" dna may be seen as local dna because it is from too long ago...
I have heard of people having such dna, and wouldn't be surprised to have it too. This is in no way unique to Belgium as far as I know...

Thank you for your explanations. Until when is it possible to go back in time with those genetic tests?
