Belgium has tonnes of immigrants, in Ghent I saw loads or at least people that were as dark or darker than myself i.e alpines, meds, Antwerp too has loads, as for Brussels only about 40% or so were certainly native. There must be many areas of France that are mainly native, especially in the west and center of the country.

I agree, Brussels is somewhat more native than London though in London it does seem easier to tell native English who look extremely different to the Poles, Romanians etc while in Belgium because of the alpine influence it is much harder.

They do look different. Partly genes, partly culture/diet, I think. Hollanders are very admixed from the Southern Netherlands, vice versa less so. I myself find it an attractive look and especially personality. Dutch women are also far more bossy and are less prone to forgiveness. :p In that regard very feminine. They also sit on bicycles sidesaddle as a companion, rare in Belgium (at least Flanders) among women, the norm in the Netherlands.

I just disagree with a lot of choices people seem to make in Belgium and that's still true for Flanders alone. Hence they negative connotation. I often clash with a fellow Fleming to later so a Dutch person think the same way I do all along.

Flemish nationalism to me is 'tiny Belgian' nationalism, by the way. Politically correct.

Keep in mind. I think Belgian nationalism was indeed supported by many Flemish in 1830. I also think it was due to the anti-intellectualism at that time and an escalated situation. I should never have been about independence anyway, or only Wallonia should have split.

In North Brabant they understood this.
