It's why it's non sense to think 2 or 3% is irrelevant, it's still a load of genes to tap into, even if they most often won't show on the surface because proportionally the least amount are involved in look, as opposed to the highest amount (brain). 1/3 of our genes are involved with the brain, as it's the most complex organ and everything else in comparison are simple mechanisms in humans controlled by very little genes, so brain/intelligence would be actually a lot more consistent and less randomly indexed on admixture than even look. Of course a few percents might be anecdotical but it will certain manifest one way or another as theorically it can even show up in look. This guy might not even be 5% SSA but still shows it. The fact admixture is recent is also important as the chunk of specific genotypes associated to a group are not broken down yet and not selected in/out like it's often the case with populations that have more ancient admixtures.

The reason for higher intelligence in Eurasia overall is not random it was the result of intelligence explosion when people could not survive other than devolving into animals without being smarter and also developp more cooperation, different reproduction strategies, investment in less childs but better rearing of them (K strategy). While in more southern lattitudes than in Eurasia, you could survive just hunting, gathering casually and sleep under the stars, the same as in the last millions of years. In Ice Age Europe you would have died every night without shelter, clothes, more effective weapons, and basically a serious plan to survive the foreseable future. One of the trait the most linked to intelligence is indeed generally problem solveing, as well as the ability to plan and project ourselves into the future. All of it make sense from an evolutionnary standpoint. Neanderthals probably went through the same process much earlier in Eurasia, there are a lot of evidences there were not dumb at all and had huge brains but consumed too much energy with that and their bodies compared to Sapiens (good prototype, bad engineering effectiveness)

There is no curse or anything, it's just how selection and evolution worked for every species, except only humans went into this crazy endeavour trying to survive this environement at that particular time. Humans as a whole seem to have constantly put themselves into difficult situations for some reasons that increasingly required more intelligence, an oddity for most biological life. Some groups just more than others.
