The Connecticut Senator thinks the search giant can be doing a lot more to fight terrorism and has told Google as much. It’s in reaction to the case of Jose Pimentel, the terrorism suspect who was running a blog on the Google-owned Blogger platform. Talking Points Memo obtained a copy of a letter Lieberman sent to Google calling for:

Google to implement a policy explicitly banning terrorist material on their Blogger servers and set up a YouTube-style “flag” system to bring such material to Google’s attention.

This is likely to be something Google won’t want to go anywhere near and the company hasn’t commented yet. Google is the administrator of a content platform and has been policing YouTube for obscene content for some time. But in the case of words on a screen, all sorts of free speech issues arise. If Lieberman’s request gets some traction, it could set up an interesting situation.
