His face is pretty common for Ukrainians. Slavs and Caucaus people were one of the main groups of slaves used by Arabs fyi. Although it could also be remnants of other migrations and settlements.

I would identify him as predominately North Pontid too.

Looks like a foreigner in Egypt at first sight. But he has some Egyptian features like his hair and his noise. Looks East Baltid with Egyptian features. However, If I was in Egypt, I wouldn´t assume he´s foreign.

As multiple members have mentioned his hair would not be considered red or even reddish in the West. I don’t know how hair color is described in the Arabic world. There might not be a fully clear distinction between red and light brown. Just because he is described one way in Egypt does not mean it carries over with all languages and cultures.

The thing is he is in the sun and still does not appear to have clear reddish highlights.

This is a half Greek half Irish former classmate who had clear auburn hair when I knew him. It may be more brown now. In this mugshot not in bright sunlight his hair appears similar to your friend. Although I can’t be certain I would suspect that in similar conditions this fellow would show a greater reddish tinge.

Perhaps when he was younger your friend did have a more clear reddish tinge and it has faded like my former classmate.

My hair looks more red than his and my hair is light brown with a reddish tint.

In pictures posted this man does not have red hair in any of them. He might have a reddish tint not being picked up in these pictures but I wouldn't describe his hair as red.
