Croatian youtuber Ratko Martinović is also from Slavonski Brod. In Slavonia a lot of Serbs converted to Catholicism in Habsburg time and even in WW2...

Wait, there are Catholic Serbs? I've never heard of them. How do they see Serbs of Orthodox Christianity, do they feel more or less Serbian than them? Do they prefer mixing with Croats over Orthodox Serbs because of religion?

Catholic Serbs existed in the past. Vast majority of them became Croatians and some became Albanians.
Catholic Serbs movement in Dubrovnik was their last attempt to preserve national consciuosness https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serb-Catholic_movement_in_Dubrovnik

That's sad, my friend. I sympathize because a similar things used to happen to some Jews, to be forced to change their religion, and with religion, their nationality

Ignore him. Martinović is pure Croatian surname, from Catholic saint Martin, a name inexistant among ethnic Serbs.

We have surname Martynov, related with name Martyn which was popular in Russia before 1917 and even before 1950s, now it's very rare. Just like Stepan, I met Stepan few times in my life, but surname Stepanov is widespread as the name was popular in rural areas before 1917 and then until 1950s.

All three saint Martins are Orthodox saints as well, because they're pre schism saints. Just like patron of Split saint Duje (saint Domnus) is Orthodox saint, too.

Martinovići Serbs are mostly from Cetinje area in Montenegro, but not all https://www.poreklo.rs/2012/02/24/martinovi%c4%87/comment-page-4/#comment-171179

Most of Serbs outside of Old Montenegro and probably Croatians with that surname have roots from OM.

Ok, I see now that there is some arguing between Serbs and Croats about who is of what origin. My opinion is that everyone should leave chauvinism behind and respect our differences and similarities. I am a little embarrassed to interfere in a thing that is something personal between Serbs and Croats, I apologize, it is not my aim to provoke!

Doesn't matter.

It's a Croatian surname, and Serb who carry it have Croatian patrilinear roots.

I noticed tons of Croatian surnames among Serbs. They are such mongrels lol

I think it's natural as you're living next to each other and would be even more natural in Ottoman Bosnia.

Serbs, Montenegrins and Croatians have surname Martinović, Russians and Bulgarians Martinov, Macedonians Martinoski, Albanians Martini.

Guy on the video have Macedonian paternal origin, his name is Ivica Martinoski. He is from Pančevo (Macedonians are pretty numerous in Pančevo area).

AFAIK no citizen of Dubrovnik called himself a Serb before the 2nd half of XIX century. All Dubrovnik writers called their language croatian ("harvatski" etc). Dubrovnik didn't even let non-catholics live in the city, that's why orthodox and muslims could only come to the city for business during the day and had to leave after dark.
Instead of being a last attempt to preserve national consciuosness, the serb-catholic movement was a political movement of romantics who wanted their city to join the only free south slav state, Serbia. After having joined Serbia in 1918 the movement lost all its members.

Speech of Dubrovnik have nothing to do with original Croatian language chakavian. It is very similar to speech of Serbs from East and Old Herzegovina, difference is some Latin words and Montenegrin elements in dubrovački. Linguistically dubrovački is new shtokavian ijekavian and it is sub-dialect of East Herzegovinian dialect of Serbian language. Native ijekavian Croatians speakers basically doesn't exist. Vast majority of Croatians are not born ijekavian speakers and their first contact with ijekavica is in school where they learn Croatian standard language. Original language of Dubrovnik was Dalmatian (Romance) which disappeared in the late middle. Serbian migrants from Trebinje, Popovo Polje and Montenegro replaces native Romance population of Dubrovnik. Croatians never lived southeastern of Cetina river.

Language is older than national identity which is a political category (friend/enemy) based on similarities in values and attitudes. Dubrovnik people feel 100x more similarities with chakavian speakers than with orthodox shtokavians.
Dubrovnik citizens never called themselves Serbs, only orthodox southwestern slavs do.

Why are you pretending to be a Serb on this forum, when you are a Croat? Your mindset is Croatian, not Serbian.

Your soul is not Serbian Orthodox.

I read some of your Russophobic comments, and you are not part of us.
