But, ads tend to reflect your browsing habits, and lots of other factors (spooky ones) that as far as I can tell have nothing to do with your browsing habits, but which 'they' know about, such as my urgent need to hire a proper financial advisor, or invest in better computer security.

However, the only gay reference that ever comes up up on my browser is when I google 'meade skelton' and up pops a link to the Distorted View.

Usually, google wants me to buy a new car. I also get lots of ads for wine. Lately, they also want me to buy a new flashlight. Amazon wants me to buy dress shoes.

The point is, the data analysts have built enormous databases which they scour using very sophisticated algorithms, and have figured out what you want/need. Sometimes, like a good doctor or shrink or parent, they know more about you than you do.
