One of the worst consequences of the global spread of English is how, in many countries, it is increasingly displacing their own languages in higher education, so those academics and students with limited or no English are being driven out, however good they may be in their fields. Even in the Netherlands, one of the most vigorously English-speaking countries outside the (official) Anglosphere, there is growing concern at how English is erasing Dutch especially in postgraduate courses.
