View Full Version : Do siblings score the same results in those DNA ancestry tests?

For example, this is Brazilian footballer David Luiz with his sister. Their father is mulatto and their mother is white.
Obviously, they are very different from each other when it comes to phenotype (while David Luiz would look like an ordinary southern-European if he straightened his hair or had it shaved, his sister looks like a very "average" mulatta you can find in countries such as Colombia, Ecuador and Brazil, for example).
But when it comes to genetics and DNA, would they score the same results if they had a 23andme or a MyHeritage test (since both are children of the same parents)? I know nothing about those DNA tests, that's why many could consider my question a "very dumb" one, but I hope you guys can clear it up to me since I'm a newbie at these issues and wanna learn about it a little more.

Statistically it is more common that sons resemble their mother and daughters their father more. However, it doesn’t always have to be the way.
When it comes to genetics each chromosome is just given randomly, means siblings can be more than 50% similar but even far less and in some cases just have the similarities of cousins.
For example, the user rothaer also published the ethnicity calculator results of his children. As an Eastern German he is mainly an admixture between Slavic and Germanic populations. And the exact admixtures differ between his kids although they have the same mother and father.

I think they would probably have at least one different allele (version) on the gene that affects pigmentation. But not necessarily different ethnicity estimate results.

Anyway, since they're not monozygotic twins their results will be similar but not identical either.

From the the top of my head, siblings are somewhere between 30-60% identical.

My sister and myself have been tested and we got similar results but not the same.

Do twins always score the same results?

I think they would be close but not 100%, me and my sisters 23andme results demonstrate this. We also have some different traits results as well.
