A friend of mine is not 100% sure of their European origins, and they recently became a member of ancestry.com to find out more. The surnames- Jussila, Pollari, Fremont, and Keele. Fremont sounds English, yet a bit French, and as for the rest I'm not really sure. Can you guys help out? Thanks :D

I don't think so. Jussila sounds more Finnish than Sollari. Sounds similar to "Lassila".

Jussila? definitely Finnish, Keele could be English, Fremont...could be French or Catalan those are the ones that use "mont" pretty often

Jussila is definitely Finnish, Pollari is likely Finnish too.

'Keele' is English. It's either locational (Lincolnshire) or occupational (Ship builder).

Yeah but Bou told me Pollari's given names, they weren't Italian, but Swedish (=Finnish).

This is an Anglo-Scottish surname, the origins in both countries being the same. Of all the great medieval guilds that of the Worshipful Company of Skinners was amongst those of highest honour, such was the importance of the skill. The derivation is from the Norse-Viking pre 5th century word "skinn" meaning a hide or pelt, and perhaps not surprisingly the surname is one of the first recorded as a hereditary occupational name.

Jussila

No data for Finland, but distribution in northern Sweden certainly suggests possible Finnish origin:

17905

Pollari

Again, no data for Finland. Distribution in Sweden & Norway isn't very informative. This map would suggest Sicily or elsewhere in Italy, but I trust the name in your friend's case is actually Finnish (which was my first guess in any case):

17906

Fremont

Little doubt this is ultimately French:

17907

Keele

English:

17908

Skinner

English or Scottish:

17909

A few Catalan surnames end in -mont indeed (more usually in -munt, though), but Fremont is not a Catalan surname at all.

According to Geopatronyme, it is a NW French surname, apparently from Normandy, specially from Upper Normandy.

Jussila and Pollari are both 100% Finnish surnames, Jussila is quite common and I know a person called Pollari personally.

However, Pollari could also be by coincidence for example an Italian surname but in the context with Jussila mentioned and those surnames I would guess Finnish
