“Ancient Mitogenomes Reveal the Origins and Genetic Structure of the Neolithic Shimao Population in Northern China” pointed to the existence of Finns belonging to mtDNA X2b9:

European_AY339513 Finn European Finland Finland AY339513 X2b9 Finnilä et al., 2001

There are three known individuals belonging to X2b9, and two of them are known to come from Finns:

1. AY339513.2(Finland) Moilanen X2b9 10-OCT-2007
2. JQ702096 X2b9 07-APR-2012
3. KY496921(Finland) Soini MP41 (Incomplete)

The KY496921(Finland) has this mutation G5223A which was only observed in Japanese women so far in “Whole-genome analysis of human papillomavirus 67 isolated from Japanese women (…)” (2022)

The mtDNA X2b9 is a branch of mtDNA X2b+T226C which has a Near Eastern descent, but is widely distributed in Europe. One of the oldest mtDNA X2b+T226C in Europe is distributed in PB186 - Parknabinnia, Clare, Ireland (5393 year ago, the Neolithic period). Much later mtDNA X2b+T226C was reported from ancient DNA in Scandinavia.

The location of Clare, Ireland, is already relatively not far from the oldest case of ancient yDNA R1b-DF21 reported from Rathlin Island, Antrim, Northern Ireland (3897 years ago).

mtDNA X2b+T226C is also widely distributed in Scandinavia, yDNA R1b-DF21 is to a smaller degree distributed in Scandinavia. The ancient 4100-year-old branch of yDNA R1b-DF21 named R1b-Y2890 was reported from “ancient DNA” from Iceland. Interestingly, the Finnish yDNA N1a1a1a1a2a1-CTS2733 (N-Z1928), which is younger than yDNA R1b-Y2890, share mutation with yDNA R1b-Y2890.

Thus, the younger pre-yDNA N1a1a1a1a2a1-CTS2733 population possibly acquired mtDNA X2b+T226C and some of other genetic characteristics due to the contact with the population containing mtDNA X2b+T226C and yDNA R1b-Y2890, which was distributed in Scandinavia as well during the ancient period.
